I don't think the gray is getting more difficult to color, I think companies are changing their formulations and the color doesn't hold as well.

My last hi lite lasted all of about 4 weeks.

I agree also. I had to find a different hairdresser since I recently started a new job and it wasn't convenient for me to go to my old hairdresser. That being said, I am very happy with my haircuts but not really the color at my new salon. So, I am just coloring at home instead. I have been pleased with the results of coloring at home and am also saving a lot of money. I only have a small amount of grey so I don't really have a lot to cover. If I was primarily grey I don't think I would color myself.

Have been coloring the gray around hairline for years on my own at home with good results. I swim in a chlorinated pool every morning and lately I have noticed that gray is creeping back quicker than ever. Wondering if a salon color would stand up better to the chlorine OR if the gray is just getting more aggressive as I age.

Try the new Loreal product for gray hair. I use it on my mom.

I don't have gray hair, but I have colored my own for many, many years.

I go to the salon once a year just for the pleasure of having someone else do it---and to learn about new products like OLAPLEX. Only I had to tell MY stylist about Olaplex, so I guess I am more up on things than she is!

"Clairol Expert Collection Age Defy" is a permanent home hair color with great reviews on Amazon and other places.

It's recommended since gray hair is coarser, and therefore doesn't absorb or keep color as well. This formula works because it contains an adherent that helps gray hairs soak up the dye.

You can color your hair till the cows come home but until you stop swimming daily in a chlorine pool you'll have to resort to your color not lasting long.

I would say it's the chlorine. It even fades your bathing suit so probably your hair also. We do have a pool, but I hardly ever go under water with my hair. I do color and highlight it and I like it to last as long as possible.

I take water aerobics and use WEN products to keep my color from fading. If you use traditional conditioner or cream rinse you can put that in your hair before going in the pool to protect it.

I use the WEN styling cream and Remoist in my hair before I get in the pool. It helps the color but keeps it from getting dried out, too.
