I'm wondering if the blonde shade of this would work as hi-lites in colored hair. I was also thinking of hair chalk for the same purpose, for a temporary hair change.

Has anyone used this product?

Hi, SFC! The first time I tried that, (about a week after I did my roots) I had fabulous results. The next time, not so much.

When I do roots, I do not generally pull the color through my hair, but just treat the roots. Apparently, though, all that color was too "heavy" (or something) on my hair, and it actually made my hair darker. I forget what shade I used to highlight the 2nd time, but much lighter than my root color, which is 6.5A.

I ended up calling Clairol who advised me to use a clarifying shampoo to get out the excess color.

(I've never used a regular highlighter.)

And I haven't highlighted w/ Root Touch Up since. Without pulling color through my hair, my hair seems to take on its own way of highlighting.

But that first time worked quite nicely!

I use WOW for my roots. (switched from the JR powder product) I do not see how it could be used as temporary highlights. It is a heavy powder and would weight hair down. Despite what they say, to some extent it does rub off.

Reading this thread, you are asking about the WOW temporary root touch up powder, not dye root touch-up?

I would guess it would look ashy, chalky, and patchy, but I haven't tried it myself. Using a powder to cover up a darker color generally doesn't work very well. I can use hair chalks to go darker/brighter on my hair, but lighter looks obvious or muddy.

Thank you for all your responses. You made very good points about it looking matte, etc.

Don't want a muddy look, so I won't try it for hi-lites.

I use Wow to touch up my roots the last couple of weeks before getting my hair colored. I use light brown. I sometimes will also use the blond over it to draw in a fake highlight where it has grown out - kind of connecting the grown out highlight back to my part. It adds some brightness to the brown powder. I am a fan of the Wow product. I like that it doesn't leave a gunky feeling in your hair like some other root touch up products I have used.

I tried this in Blonde and what you can't see from the picture or the video is that it is very very shimmery. It is the first root touch-up powder I'd tried although I had seen the JR one in a different color. Not blonde.

The WOW one is really really light in Blonde. It was almost as light as my gray roots. It's a very light Blonde. Remember the little girl Cindy on the Brady Bunch? How light Blonde her hair was? That is the shade of Blonde it is. Very light. It was really lighter than I thought it would be. I needed a more golden color of blonde in addition to the fact that it was so shimmery! It looked like a shimmer wash eyeshadow from Bobbi Brown. I don't think it would work as a highlight. For highlights I would just use a regular highlight product.
