I was looking for a root touch up and, while there are several choices, all are more expensive than just buying a my regular Color Silk Medium Ash Brown.

Seems silly to pay twice as much for less product.

Think I'll just keep doing my regular monthly color. I normally just do the roots and a bit further into my hair then, so I'm not sure there would be any advantage to buying the product just for roots.

Am I missing something?

I believe the actual root touch-up kits are meant to only last for around two weeks -- enough to get you through to your next coloring date. I love the idea of using my regular box shade and using only half -- GENUIS! And besides, I can't get a good color match with the limited root touch-up shades offered.

I get my hair colored in a salon. So, I have no access to the products.

My natural color and what I get colored is auburn - dark brown with a lot of red.

I have looked for root touch up, but the area of concern is around my face, not a part in the middle.

I can't seem to find a good match. They are either too brown or too red.

Maybe I should try a box color root touch up?

Hyacinth

I don't trust myself enough to do my own color, HOWEVER! I was thrilled during my last appointment when my stylist introduced me to Joan Rivers Great Hair Day Fill In Powder to help out my roots until my next color appointment. Oh my gosh! I love this stuff! And trust myself enough to use it on my own! Very simple, and she said that the Powder will last me a long time before I need to buy more.

I have been doing my own color for years. I often use the root touch up. It is $6.00 at CVS most times and I sometimes can get two uses out of each one. I like it because it only takes ten minutes.

I tried the L'oreal Mousse Absolue for this purpose, but the blonde was a yellow brassy tone and I did not like it. I'll bet it works great on dark hair, and you can probably get three or four uses out of it. It is $12 or $13 dollars when not on sale.

I like the L'oreal root stuff better than the Nice n Easy, because I like the plastic brush better.

It works great (at least for me). I've even gotten compliments after I've done it.

For me, it's definitely very helpful. I have very long and thick hair. It's physically very difficult for me to do a full dye job. So I do the Clairol Root Touch Up, in between, and it's very easy. It's a lot easier and less time consuming than doing a full dye and you'd never know.

I use Garnier Nutrisse #63 and the corresponding Clairol Root Touch Up product is a perfect match.

Even if I just purchased the regular dye for touch ups I'd probably feel badly about the waste because it's not like you can save it to use the rest of it up. Plus, then you're back to the more time-consuming process. The touch up takes so little time and is way easier.

That's what works for me, anyway.
