For me, yes. I've tried many times to use less expensive or drugstore foundations and it always proves to be a mistake. Believe me, I would prefer to spend less money on skincare and foundation.

Hi everyone. I was wondering for those people who own and have used really expensive high end foundations, are they worth it? I am talking about foundations from Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, etc.) Foundations that are $50. or more.

I just can't see spending it unless it is so amazing. Tell me, have you noticed a difference with these that other foundations just don't do?

Thank you for your input. God bless you all. : )

I have tried loads of foundations and my go to is always Chanel. It not only matches my complexion perfectly, but....I dunno, it just seems to blend so much better than other brands. I use a liquid foundation, btw. A little goes a long way, so the expense seems a bit more acceptable to me. Good luck with your search!

I have EL's Re Nutriv Intensive Lift. It doesn't lift a thing but it is very hydrating, nice finish and very long lasting.

Is it worth the $? A little goes a very, very long way so in the end it works out.

Not a HG for sure but it is nice.

I also use Chanel foundation and like Kates BFF said it is so much better than any other foundation I have used. It is so smooth.

I am swearing by Clarins Extra Comfort cream foundation this winter. It's pricey but you only need the smallest amount since it is so rich and very easy to blend. But it doesn't feel greasy and not shiny. The jar will last for a very long time. My husband actually told me he noticed my skin looked really smooth and looked like I wasn't even wearing makeup! I also like Chanel, Ellis Faas and by Terry. I do think they are made from better quality ingredients and make my skin look good. But I do have some less expensive foundations that I like such as L'Oreal Visible Lift Blur.

For me, it would be a qualified no.

But, I would pay for a foundation that I LIKED for my skin tone. For being very fair (think all Irish descent!), almost all feel too YELLOW for me.

If I don't like the color, it doesn't matter how much I have spent. I have gone through Josie Maran, Laura Mercier, NARS, Lancome, Estee Lauder, Chanel, Edward Bess, IT Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, Korres, philosophy, Skinn, and I know many more.

I have a bottle of Cover Girl that was the best match for my skin tone, and the least expensive. I need to try that color in a different formula, as this one is way too dry for me now.

No matter what the quality is, for me, if the color is off, doesn't matter what I pay.

Hyacinth

I use Laura Mercier's Silk Creme foundation. It's $47. I consider that very expensive, but it lasts forever. I love it because it's full coverage yet doesn't look like you're wearing a lot of foundation. It's very natural and goes on smoothly. I have very fair skin, and I can get a perfect color match with this foundation. I've used it for over fifteen years.

I use Perricone, No Foundation and love it. I only use a tiny bit, the bottle lasts a couple months.

Expensive foundation is only worth it to me if

1) I have tried many, many others to no avail first.

2) feels like second skin. If I can feel a foundation, or it is too heavy..I will not wear it. If I go out in the sun with a mirror and can see a film like powder, it's gone!.

3) never leaves a break out

4) Most important...if it works, it is worth it.

I could paint the entire State of California with foundation I have bought and couldn't use.

The YSL Teint Resist oil free foundation is the only one I have found that matches my skin tone 100% perfectly and has a fabulous finish. If you do a search on these boards, I know I read about it here. People were raving about it so much that I went to Bloomies and tried it.

I have Chanel and EL foundations as well and they are also great, but nothing comes close to the YSL. I don't waste money trying a bunch of others that won't come close. It's my HG.

Yes, as well for me. I used to purchase Prescriotive's custom color foundation to get a perfect color match. It was quite expensive. I have also purchased a foundation air brush machine, so, that I could achieve that perfect look. They were investments, this is true. I would love to find a drug store foundation that is perfect for me. But, it is so hard without testers.

I really liked one by Givenchy until I discovered one by Chanel. I LOVE my Chanel foundation, it's perfect for me. I don't feel the need to keep searching for a foundation anymore.

I used Prescriptives until they threw in the towel. Was so unhappy about that. Tried several Q vendors without success, then Christian Dior, because I used their shadows and lipstick for years before moving over to MAC. I just couldn't justify spending that much on their foundation. Shortly after that I retired, so the decision was made for me: I had to go "drugstore" and ended up with Cover Girl. I received the best color match here and it applied really well over my moisturizer. (The Revlon was just awful on my face. Felt like old clown m/u.)

I love Lancome Absolue - flawless glowy (not shiny) moderate coverage - makes the lines less noticeable - very moisturizing. It's $67 but I only need a half pump for great coverage - a little goes a long way so the bottle lasts a long time.

The best foundation ever for me is Perricone No foundation foundation and it is well worth every penny as it just doesn't cover the skin but improves it and my skin looks so natural that I have received many compliments about the look of my skin - not my makeup!!! I never got that with any other foundation I've tried over the years.

I never found a drugstore foundation I liked. The Estee Lauder Resilience Lift is excellent. If I buy liquid fnd, that's what I buy. I hear good things of Chanel, but they are so pricey, I don't see the point I used to wear the Lancome, but some of the brands like Lancome are too perfumed and I don't do well anymore with heavy fragrance. I tried Nars, not impressed.

On 1/10/2015 hyacinth003 said:

Hyacinth

I am right there with Hyacinth...I also have light skin and amazingly so many foundations are too white or to orange....just not right. "Light" almost never works. For years I was using a L'oreal foundation until it was discontinued. Foundation shows more than anything else so finding the right one is vital. Even drug store brands are inching up to the $20 range. So what is most important is finding one that works for you regardless of price. In the lower price points it takes a lot more trial and error!

I am a hi/low cosmetics buyer, but for foundation I have stuck with the more expensive I think the textures are better. I use a liquid and compact from Chanel I was also able to get an instant color match from the counter person too. One guy just looked at me, the other tried 2 they both were right. So that is worth the money.

I think that formulas are constantly being improved in the drugstore lines but the prices are creeping up.
