Disappointment In A High End Product

Have you ever been disappointed in the performance of a high end product? I'm using Bobbi Brown BB Cream which sells for $44 (I don't remember if I paid that or got a discount on it). I'm sorry to say that I don't think it works any better than a drugstore brand.When I spend big bucks on something I expect to get good results. Sometimes I think it's better to go with a drugstore product and have money in my pocket!

Just about every high end product disappoints me. For lots of money, I expect major improvement!

Besides perfume, (love Jo Malone, cheap brands = headache for me) I have always been slightly mad at myself for falling for expensive cosmetics. Don't get me started on BB eyeshadows. And I wanted so bad for IT BBUE to work for me, but it didn't.

Yes! I would rather have money than high-end cosmetics. If I buy a Tom Ford lipstick for $50.00 or a Rimmel for $5.00, I am going to wash it off at the end of the day and no one who sees me during the day will know or care how much my lipstick cost.

Today I put maybelline age rewind (12 dollars) on one side of my face, and Guerlain silk (60 dollars) on the other, and honestly, I saw no difference. They both look fine, but why do I think an expensive product will be the bomb. So easy to fall for the hype.

I have been disappointed and I have been over the moon pleased. I'm an equal opportunity shopper, department store or drug store. Important thing is to return it if it's not working for you, regardless of price!

The thing to keep in mind is, no product is going to make you look 21 again. No matter how much it costs. To expect an expensive product to be the fountain of youth, is just wasting your money, and all you are buying is false hope.

I used to buy makeup at the cosmetic counter, but have changed my ways. I still buy lancome pressed powder, but drug store brands for everything else.

Yes, I was so happy when Bobbi Brown came to QVC, as I was interested in trying her line. I bought a set of eye shadows and the darkest color separated from the base and I had to throw that color out. I did not find that the product or the packaging warranted the higher price. I am finishing the shadows but will not purchase again.

I am with LuluCCS on this. I will say that knock off perfume dupes are inferior. Some costly beauty items are just junk in a prettier bottle. The beauty industry varies. I shop everywhere.

Disappointment has no price range. If you buy enough it's inevitable that you'll satisfaction and dissatisfaction in many brands at all the various price points one can pay.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same company manufactures a drugstore and department store product. I really think your paying for the name and reputation. I think I once heard that Loreal and Lancome were owned by the same parent company.

I dont think high end products work any better than drugs store. I haven't really noticed anything that makes them worth their ridiculous prices when I have tried them. I always feel ripped off.

I posted this on another thread, but the point is that there are only a handful of manufacturing companies in the entire world which make the products sold under the thousands of brands in the world. Very few brands have total power (like those under the umbrella of the Estee Lauder Co.), where they have control everything from formulation to putting the finished product into the package for distribution. That's why we see so many similarities.

The manufacturing company comes up with something. They present it to let's say high end brand A which is willing to incur higher manufacturing costs (a few more active ingredients, perhaps more pigment in the color products, and better packaging). High end A brand is going to mark up the product more than 100 times the manufacturing costs, so they'll make their money and then some. Same manufacturer offers the same product to low end D brand. D has to sell at a lower retail price, so they may take out a little of this or a lot of that, use cheaper packaging, but basically puts a similar product on the market.

Yes... bought a dept store foundation for my wedding. Thankfully I tried it ahead and decided to toss it, but sure wish I had returned it. It was oily and made me glisten, and not in a good way, either.
