I have had foundations that make me breakout, but only a couple. Since you have tried so many different formulas could it be that they are not the problem but rather you have acne not related to makeup?

Hi there! Just wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a full coverage foundation for someone with very oily and acne prone skin. I am early forties, fair with pink undertones, light brown hair and blue eyes. I've tried tarte, kvd (liquid and powder), too faced (cocoa powder), it (cc and celebration), josie's tinted mosturizer, LG balance and brighten, bare minerals and evety otc foundation known to man! I get my shine under control with most but then I have a horrible breakout! Not looking for miracles just something witb coverage that doesn't break me out so I CAN go make- up free some days. I would like to have something cruelty free (no bobbi brown or mac). Thanks very much!

Rimmel Stay Matte is pretty awesome. Unfortunately no SPF so use Paula's Choice Resist SPF 30 which is really, really mattifying then the Stay Matte over top. This combo can cover a road. Trust me....

I'm wondering if you might want to try the different types of Dermablend foundation? If you have a location nearby that you could sample their different options you might start there since you have already tried so many that haven't worked. Dermablend foundations are usually paired with a setting powder so it stays put (many become waterproof). Since you want full coverage and your skin breaks out easily you may want to try them? HTH!

One that I got recently, and really like, is Estee Lauder Double Wear. It has great coverage, and pretty much stays on my face all day. They also have a Double Wear Light version. I would suggest going to a counter, they can color match you and give you a free sample of either, or both versions, to see which you like best. The samples (for me anyway) last a long time and you can get a really good feel to see if you like them. These were the best I've tried. They were very helpful to me!

If you are so troubled by breakouts, a visit to your dermatologist is in order. Makeup may not be the cause. I had pimples from rosacea and I needed a prescription med to clear it up. Skin issues can be hormone related, too.

I have oily skin and have been using an inexpensive drugstore foundation for about a year: Cover girl Ready Set Gorgeous is the name. Oil free, comes in a tube, wide assortment of colors, doesn't get greasy. Packaging is not glamorous and looks like something a teen would use, so don't let that put you off.

I can answer your question about full coverage and good for oily skin but I have no idea if these will break you out.

Full Cover

Estee Lauder Maximum Cover (not the Double Wear original which is fine but not nearly as full coverage as the Maximum Cover) - it comes in a a blue tube

Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme

Dermablend Cover Creme (you'll need a dense, synthetic buffing brush and maybe even warm it in your fingers)

MAC Full Coverage foundation

(the above are equal to or more coverage than the KVD you tried)

Here are some others that you can build to full and are good for oily skin

Boots Beautifully Matte

Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Matte

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage

Garnier BB Cream for Oily Skin

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet +

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse

Estee Lauder Double Wear

Cover FX total Cover Cream Foundation

I'm oily to very oily and as you can see, I have a lot of foundations in my bag of tricks. I don't believe the answer for oily skin is only the foundation. It takes a lot. Mattifying primers, setting powders, lots of blotting, powder touch ups. Since you are break out prone, then blotting papers will most likely be the only thing you can use in addition to a matte foundation. Another option for full coverage is to blend a somewhat liquidy concealer with your foundation or dot it all over your face. The new one by Maybelline is great, Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer, and MAC Prolongwear Concealer (comes in great color range).

Thanks for the replies! I've had these breakouts since I was 9 :-( So a derm is part of my routine. I've found more natural products mesh better with my skin. I've seen amazing feedback on the too faced liquid so I think I may swatch that in store. I'm def going to look into the hourglass. I've found a brand called nvey echo I may try too. Thanks again :-)

I love Murad for the acne and oiliness. I use BE matte foundation. It is the only foundation I have used since they came out with it. I strayed a couple times and went right back to it. MATTE is the key. Did you try that formula? The regular BE made me look like a tin man. Super shiney!!!

Oh and luluccs I am a liitle obsessed with trying the boots. Ulta online and drugstore.com both have it and its super reasonable. I went to my local ulta to swatch and they said I could only get online but I see Target has it too. Also am seeing good reviews on Flower by Drew Barrymore. Oh and the too faced liquid was horrible! Brought out every pore! I did get pur minerals and it covers well stays matte and I have fewer bumps. I found an amazing (HG worthy!) Primer by palladio. Its herbal and awesome!

If you have sensitive skin and break out prone skin, it is better to use multiple layers of lighter products than 1 heavy foundation. I have similar skin so I would know.

Currently I use Hourglass's primer as well as their Immaculate foundation, and it is WONDERFUL. However it is not full coverage - so for breakouts & undereyes I'll use tarte's concealer and top with tarte's amazonian full coverage powder. Finish with an oil absorbing powder, and always carry blotting towels with me (p.s.- never splurge on blotting towels, they are all generally the same!)

If you are interested in Hourglass, HSN has a duo with the full size Immaculate foundation & 1oz primer (which retails for $20) for $55, which is the price of the foundation itself.
