You can use a large variety of products, although the manufacturer or designer may suggest only certain things. Yes, baby shampoo is very good. But over many years I find that whatever I use, I now like to add a half-teaspoonful of the blue Dawn dish liquid to it as it is a great de-greaser, and removes all forms of difficult or left-on makeup with all types of grease or other oils or products

I prefer to wash my brushes right after I use them rather than waiting for major build up. WI'm finished with my make up, I just run very hot water in my tap, pour my hand soap or whatever I want in the palm of my hand, add a teaspoon of Dawn, then scrub my brush in my palm. After a minute, I rinse it very well under water. I let it air dry with the tip up, so water doesn't run down it and get into the wood or anything. Oh, I forgot to say, I dip it in alcohol to sterilize it, and then let it air dry. Some people like to wash it in some of the antiseptic facial washes as well, and they skip the alcohol rinse.

All of my brushes dry overnight, but I also pick up extra ones when on sale if I need them and can use them for back up or travel.

Don't put them in the dishwasher, as some do. Too harsh, and will ruin the brush where it is attached to the rest of the handle (Can't believe some people do this anyway!

Serious professional make up artist's suggest that you go no longer than a week of steady use without cleansing all of your brushes and wiping out your container's as well.

Don't forget your hair brushes, combs, and any tools that can be washed !

HTH

What do you use for your makeup brushes to clean them? I am undecided as to what to use. I have very sensitive skin so want to be careful.

Can you use baby shampoo? Do you use your facial cleanser? I am not sure of how to do this. I have just recently begun using a couple of brushes. Also, how often should you wash them?

Thanks a bunch.

I use brush cleaner I get for $6 at Sephora. I use to use hand soap, but if they are expensive I would ask a cosmetic consultant or dermatologist what to use.

Yes, you can use baby shampoo or facial cleanser. You can pretty much use anything that will break down whatever is on the brush (shampoo, facial cleanser, hand soap, dish detergent). Some BB and CC creams can be a little more challenging to break down so you might need to use a dish detergent that breaks down grease, and you might need to repeat the cleaning process a couple of times. However, you don't want to let your brushes soak in water or use too hot of water because the glue that holds the bristles and brush together could soften and compromise the integrity of the brush. Personally, I love using a cleansing oil on my face but would not use it to clean my brushes. Assuming you would give your brushes a thorough rinsing after cleaning them, I don't think the actual product you use on them would be an issue for your skin, any more than using a dirty brush would be.

I use brush cleaning stuff I got at Harmon, or a face cleansing wipe or baby wipe will do the same

I tend to go easy on giving them a "bath" as years ago I ruined a Trish M brush that way. Too much water can get down in the ferrule and loosen the hairs. Luckily the sales rep replaced the brush for me.

I take excellent care of my brushes, and they last for ages !!! But I really don't mind replacing them if need be or if I desire. You need good tools to do a good job. They do the hard work ! BTW, I NEVER let mine sit in water, and I only air dry them, I won't even towel dry them.

For a quick clean that dries almost instantly, I use baby wipes or make up remover wipes. I also have Bare Minerals & Sephora brand quick change brush cleaner spray. This product is excellent too! These are great if you don't have a lot of brushes & need to quickly clean the brush to use for another shade right away.

When I deep clean, which isn't very often since I "quick clean" them so not a lot builds up on them, I use Johnson's baby shampoo. Dry them flat on a towel. Never dry them standing up as the water will drip done & unglue the handle from the brush.

90% of my brushes are Bare Minerals, the rest Tarte & Urban Decay. I've done this for 10+ years and all my brushes are still like brand new!

I use Dawn dish liquid and coconut oil. I dab them in the Dawn and lightly in the coconut oil and scrub away. The coconut oil keeps them soft. If you want go to you tube as there are a lot of beauty bloggers with videos on how to's. HTH

I clean my brushes every time I use them with facial cleanser or liquid hand soap. I have duplicates of the brushes I use most often so I always have a clean one that's dry and ready to go! I keep a terrycloth cloth on the bottom of a bathroom drawer, and lay my brushes flat on that to dry and for storage. I've had the same brushes for years - I don't think washing wears them out. I think not washing them grows bacteria.

I use a brush cleaner. I grew up with a painter, so washing brushes is something I've done forever. Mom had a special tool for washing and drying her brushes, so I looked for something similar. There are a lot of good videos on washing brushes on youtube and I recommend checking some out because you don't want to get water in the ferule or leave a brush in a tub of water.

This is my favorite video on drying brushes. I use a paper towel and it works really well.
