On my days I am not going out anywhere I use L'Oreal colormatch mineral powder and finish it with spritz of rosewater. When I am going out for church or dinner etc I use L'oreal colormatch liquid foundation them a very light layer of the mineral powder and a light spritz of the rosewater. I love these L'oreal products.

I am asking once again for your expertise!

I have come to the conclusion that I would like to try a loose powder --- again!

I have mature skin (age 62), very sensitive, very few lines, but I have some redness and broken caps. So, I do have need for coverage. That is why I need to use concealer and/or liquid foundation. Tinted moisturizers, BB or CC creams are lovely and I wish I could use them, but they just do not have the coverage I need.

So, I am asking for recommendations for a nice finishing powder. Is loose my answer? I have been using a compact powder and it gives good coverage but feel it is aging me and looking to heavy.

Also, when I have used loose powder in the past, it seemed like my application process was removing my foundation. So, what implement exactly do you use to apply so that it doesn't disturb the concealer and/or foundation? What type of brush, puff, pad, etc?

So, my request is 2-fold. I am asking for recommendations for powder and also the applicator/method.

Thanks so much for all of your help!

Anyone? I could really use your help. I know it's early. Who wants to think about powder?

O.k. Thanks! Have a good day.

I'm not able to give you a recommendation for a powder, as there are sooo many variables - plus, I only use loose body powder with a big fluffy thing after a bath. I guess you could say I look for mature skincare ( although my family would say I haven't reached maturity yet) and have found pretty good advice with the "HotandFlashy" uTube videos. Personally, I'm getting ready to try Skinn's new Candlelight compact powder. The best brush for finishing powder is a big, soft, fluffy one. You don't want one that's too dense or your powder will cake. Sorry, my new Kindle upgrade doesn't let me separate paragraphs.

I have used Ready to Wear couture finish powder for several years. I will be 70 in a couple of months. I use a Kobi (I'm sure that's not spelled right) brush for application. The only thing I apply prior to the finish powder is a yellow concealer around my eyes and a regular concealer on my nose. I apply gently and sometimes tap the powder on. Then I apply my eye makeup, etc. Because it's in a baked form it does not get into lines or looked caked on. I love it.

Angelpuppy, I have been using Bare Essentials foundation for years and I'll never go back to liquid foundation. I use IT Bye Bye Pores HD Micro Finishing Powder. For both, the best advice I can give is Less Is More. I use a different brush for each. I also use Laura Gellar spackle which helps the make-up last all day. I truly believe that is the most important first step, I would recommend trying that if you are having trouble with your foundation removing. It may very well be not your application, you just need to prime your face first so the makeup stays on.

I like Josie Maran Fresh Finish Hydrating Liquid Powder. After trying so many I keep going back to this one. It is important to use downward strokes that way any hairs on the face will lie flat. Also I always finish my makeup with a setting spray. Currently using Youngblood but Skindinavia makes a nice one for mature skin. My skin is dry so I have to be careful because many powders are very aging. Hope that you can find something that works.

I am liking Scott Vincent Borba mineral powder. It is solid but the top of the container it is in turns to dispurse it as a powder. Kind of like Bare Minerals but Bare Minerals was always to shiny for me. It also has SPF 29 and I like the way it lasts all day.

I am 68 and have similar issues, broken caps on my cheeks.

The Estee Lauder rep recommended I use Maximum Cover foundation lightly tapping on my broken cappilaries first, let dry and then use a CC cream. I have been using It CC cream but you could use any other. I find that this cover my redness really well and I can use the CC cream lightly on the rest of my face. Works for me.

I'm 57 and have a couple of broken capillaries. I use a primer before my BB/CC cream, even though they say you don't have to, and set it with either Laura Geller CC Optics or Laura Geller Baked Elements before applying powdered blush. My finishing powder is either crushed pearl powder or Southern Magnolia Minerals Petal Pink HD Finishing Powder. I've been using them for at least a couple of years.

Regarding the application, I use a f*luffy IT Cosmetics powder brush for the LG powder and an IT Cosmetics Ball Brush for the finishing powder. Using the right brush is important. You only want to dust the finishing powder on.

I have two favorites for finishing powders - Senna Mineral Mix finishing powder Secret Set. It is not a loose powder, but is so smooth and nice. You can also carry it with for touch ups. I believe they are still having a sale.

The other one is the It Bye Bye Pores translucent loose powder - it's like silk and gives a beautiful finish.

The secret to a good application is a very soft but full brush - I usually use one of the IT medium rounded ones, sorry, it came in a set, I don't know which one it is.

HTH!!

I like Covergirl loose powder. It's in the container with the brown lid. I think using a big fluffy brush would be best as to not mess up your foundation/concealer.

angelpuppy1, I am a year older than you w/dry skin & minimal lines. I have used Bare Mineral's mineral veil in the past & like it very much (mine was tinted), but ran out. I replaced it with Cover Girl's Tru Blend Mineral powder which can be used alone or over liquid foundation. If I were you, I'd start w/an inexpensive drugstore brand to see what you like for a finish. I do use a powder brush that is big. Most drugstores sell them alone or as part of a kit. I dip the brush in, tap off excess on the side of the container, and swirl the brush on my face until I get the look I like. I do go over my whole face a second time with a blending brush (got this as part of an Ecotools kit @ Walgreens--the whole kit was $15 but I love the brushes). Good luck in your search.

In my forty year search the best loose powder I've found is Clarins. I don't use anything else from this line but the powder is remarkable. It minimizes lines, is not drying and wears until you take it off. It's $60. but it lasts me about 6 months.

I am your age with no lines around the eyes (just don't make me laugh!) and I love Clinique Repair Wear foundation in #3, No Color. I also use their no color powder with a very large fluffy brush which I dust with a very light hand. I really like Clinique which came from a dermatologist. They became known for their fantastic skin care line and a bottle of their famous yellow moisturizer is said to sell every four minutes. All their colors are just pretty and nothing is oily or heavy. They, as all makeup lines do, have brushes they can sell you. I prefer long handled brushes which I keep handle down in a large mug in my bathroom. If, you like very light eye makeup, you may prefer Bobbie Brown if your store carrys that. Both are great brands.

Thank you for your thoughtful and interesting replies. I have used loose powder in the past and gave it up (1) because it was somewhat messy (2) as I mentioned before, when I would try to apply with a brush, it seemed as though it removed half of my foundation!

So, I am going to try and buy a somewhat inexpensive loose powder to start (I like this suggestion) and try and find a large fluffy brush and see how I do. Experimentation! If I do fairly well, maybe I will look into trying one of the other loose powders you have listed.

Or --- if I find that I really don't like loose after all, then I may look into trying one of the other solid powders suggested here.

Thanks, again!

I am 67 with normal aging skin (very slightly oily T Zone, a couple dry areas and just a few wrinkles I have been on a mission to use much less (obvious) makeup. I think it can be aging. I too have some broken capillaries on the sides of my nose....caused by the Clarisonic. I now use the IT CC Cream and am loving it. For me it is a medium coverage. After I apply it (over moisturizers and serums). I then use a concealer brush and tap on the teeny tiniest amt of Bye Bye concealer (seriously, just a pin dot amt) on the capillaries and only on the dark line under my eye by the top of the nose...not under the whole eye....it takes the very smallest amt.. I use the Bye Bye Pores translucent powder and it is wonderful. I only use it on my T zone, but I could easily use it all over my face. It does "set" the CC cream beautifully. I recommend the YouTube site called "Hot and Flashy".

PS: I believe the Bye Bye Pores powder comes in a compact form as well. And yes....a big fluffy brush for application of any powder.
