Matte lipstick

I'll admit - I don't get it.

WHY would you want your lips to be FLAT in their color?

Is it just because someone said this is the new trend?

I have yet to find that look attractive. SHouldn't lips look moist? Maybe not super glossy all the time, but FLAT?

Like I don't get "nudes" that blend into your skin tone. I find having some COLOR to be so much more attractive.

Something for everyone.I like a matte lip with certain looks.....a shiny with others.I can't get down with not trying different makeup looks.It's fun and if I find it's a fail,the I don't repeat...until I try it again...lol lol.

I tend to agree with you, Hyacinth, but live and let live. If it doesn't hurt anyone, and it makes you happy, why not?

I tend like natural lip colors rather than the "nude" lips that blend into your skin tone. There's a right way to do nude lips and a very wrong way, as this blogger demonstrates:

I'm wearing 1 lipstick that is matte, but creamy b/c I cant stand the long wear lipsticks and I'm lucky to be able to get to a rest room 1x during my workday. I like a moist look but not too wet or sticky.

I'm all for choices and it's not for me to day don't wear them!

However, I just don't get the choice! It's not attractive to have a slash of flat color on your face.

I didn't think I would like them either, but I end up with one of my matte lipsticks often, just because they last longer. Or I start with matte and put something else on top.

Totally matte lip formulas can look absolutely stunning on young, full lips.

IMO, they do not look stunning on older, thinner lips.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what matte lipstick is. To me, it means glitter and shimmer free. That doesn't automatically mean it has to be dull, flat, or drying. I have several creamy, moisturizing lipsticks that are shimmer free, but I do have others that are kind of flat and dry because of the formulation, not because they lack shimmer. For those, I apply a little gloss over them.

I like matte very much. I don't like shine, glimmer, shimmer or the "smacky" feel of glosses.

A light swipe of a nudey pink matte is my favorite. I have naturally full lips so I prefer that over dark or bright shades that emphasize the mouth too much.

What is not attractive to one is attractive to another.

I don't like matte lipstick at all. I like a sheen or shine to my lips. Re nude lips. I don't like the skin color nude look, but I love a pink nude or a my lips color nude!

I'm with BeckiWV. I only wear matte lipsticks - Lancôme Matte Neutrale was my favorite, but it was discontinued so now I get it from eBay. I also like the Laura Geller Crème Couture Mocha Rose. To me, matte doesn't mean you look like you put some clay on your lips. It means a beautiful pigmented lipstick with no shimmer or sparkle or pearlessence.

I think of matte as meaning creamy with no frost or sparkles. I wish there were more of them in both lipstick and lip gloss.

I often find a shade I love but wish it didn't have little glitter bits in it.

I agree that I don't like dry looking matte lipsticks. That's how most long wear type lipsticks look and feel on me. I can't wear them. I wind up with wrinkley prune looking lips.

And I do best with neutral not bright and not pastel either shades. Neutral to me means MLMM (my lips but better). Not nude as in brown or light chalk pink.

My lips have quite a bit of natural pigment still and I like lipstick and gloss that lightly emphasize their natural color.

Bobbi Brown makes a lipstick called Creamy Matte and I love it. Matte lipsticks tend to last longer on the lips but usually most matte lipcolors feel very drying, so I decided to try her creamy matte and I love it,its very mosit and creamy but not super glossy but not matte or drying at all. To me its the perfect combination. I prefer lipstick with color, nudes do nothing for me!

The OP used the adjective "flat," so I assumed (you know what they say about that) that she was in fact referring to a flat matte formula.

At certain age you have to learn one rule. If you emphasize you're eyes you keep your lips nude otherwise you look older and not attractive. If you do bright lips, you quiet down your eyes. That is all. Balance!!!!!

This is what I'm wearing to work now-BB Creamy Matte and it is creamy. I love the Tawny Pink, a beautiful rose-MMLB shade for me.

And I was complimented by the botox nurse that my lips were full and even at my age. It was a nice compliment to hear-so naysayers can keep their opinions about that compliment to themselves.

I have a couple, not BB and I just can't adjust to not having the slick feeling of gloss or shinier lipstick.

Rules are made to broken.

I actually agree with you, but not much I can do about it. If I followed that rule I could never wear eye make-up. The lips are always bright. I hear all the time that lip color fades with age...so I've been waiting and waiting.
