My brother has been divorced for a year or so and is thinking he would like to start dating. Is anyone familiar with online dating? He is 66 . TIA

Six years ago, a woman I used to work with signed up for a freebie membership (Valentine's day special?) on match.com. She is now married to the guy she met. They've been married for about 4 years. However, she was in her 40's and her husband is 5 years younger. I also worked with a woman who met her husband on EHarmony. Both she and her husband are in their 30's.

Don't know how well these programs work for ages 65+.

I used it ages ago. Met some nice guys. No creeps just no chemistry.

You get what you pay for. You'll find every sleeze on the free sites. The more you spend on a site the better quality of your date.

I have been on eharmony now for about 6 months. its ok. prepare him to have thick skin. if you send someone a smile, and they look at your profile and don't think you are their type, they will probably just not answer. Also men seem to be unrealistic with their expectations of who would be suitable for them. just like in the real world. men think that a date should be 15 years their junior, and a 10. it's like hey buddy, have you taken a good look in the mirror? i'd be generous giving you a 5. after awhile you can really read through the lines, and there a a lot of commonly used buzz words. a few of my favorites are "handyman at home, good provider, and I have a Harley" I guess there is a lid for every pot. right?

This was my experience when I used dating sites.

Ironically, I met my husband at a bar when I was on vacation.

I met my hub on E-harmony. Have been married 4 years this past month (I'm 34, he's 38). My good friend met her hub on E-harmony as well, they just had their second kid.

I had been on match and another site that I think is now defunct before I tried E-harmony. A lot could have changed since, but I found that a lot of the other sites were more geared towards hook-ups and causal dating whereas E-harmony was for people looking for a real relationship. so it depends on what your bro is looking for.

At 66, Match.com is a NO. Also Eharmony.com is a NO! He needs a dating site for Senior citizens. Not sure of any of the names. lol I am 32.

I used ourtime after my divorce and it was ok. I did try match but found that the users are extremely picky. Probably because the cost is high compared to some other sites. Google dating sites. There are many out there for reasonable pricing and some cater to certain things like ourtime and Christians dating etc... Above all else teach your brother to look for scammers. Women who are too pretty and too eager are probably from another country and will eventually ask for money to be sent to them. When I first started out I almost fell for the scam with a man who was out of town, mugged and needed money. That was when all the bells went off in my head. I did have good experiences as well and met my deceased fiancé online and my current BF. Like any other dating you have to kiss a bunch of frogs before finding a prince (princess). BTW, I am a three years younger than your brother. I read the other post after I wrote mine and I agree match and eharmony are not good ideas.

Two of my brothers use/used match.com. One is in a serious relationship and the other had a few relationships but not currently. Both in early 50s. They said Match is for more casual dating and eharmony is people looking to get married. They're both tall, good-lookng athletic guys & mostly dated good-looking, athletic, nice women the same age or a little younger.

I have been on match.com and eHarmony. Both sites have many profiles, but, in my own case, after I "unsubscribed" to both sites, my profile was still visible to other members. I always felt sorry for those who tried to communicate with me but got no reply. I am 68. I had been on both sites in my early 50s and early 60s.
