I have curly hair and am looking for ways to add lift and volume at the top of my hair. I have been looking at the curl keeper clips and wonder if they work better than the standard jaw clips found in drugstores. Any curly girls have experience with these clips? TIA

How strange. I must have clicked on "submit." Oh, well, again:

Hi, jazzbabe. Long time, no see.

Yes, I did buy the clips from the site itself using a promo code. They're okay. I'm not as crazy about them as is mystrion 1. But we all have different curl patterns. Mine is very curly, frizzy probably 3B hair, if you know that rating. In certain weather conditions or without enough product, parts of my hair can get a bit cotton-candy-ish, yet other parts are almost straight. Charming, eh?

I do use one clip at the crown after applying my styling products, and it generally does give some lift. But occasionally, it leaves an odd bump. Now that my hair is longer, I may try again using a couple on the sides in addition to the top. I've watched the video a million times, but I still don't know whether I'm doing it right. I don't FORM a curl; I just use the clip to grab a section of hair at the scalp.

You seem interested, and I don't want to dissuade you. Give them a try.

I jus t have to ask- what is this rating on curly hair? I HAVE extremely curly frizzy hair. Humidity and rain are NOT my friends. Back in the day, I use to have to buy a tube of alberto VO 5 , to help with the frizzy hair. Later, I started using the pink lustre moisture spray. found in the ethnic hair section. These day you can find all sorts of frizz ease type products. I would be interested on finding this hair rating system. I need all the help I can get.

thanks

moongirl

moongirl:

A year or more ago someone on the boards posted about a book called "Curly Girls" so I got it out of my library. In that book the author explains how to determine what kind of curls you have. I forget the formula but the test is done by pulling down on the bottom of your hair and seeing where it goes to, then letting the hair go and the difference (in inches) between the natural length of your hair in it's curled state and the length of your hair pulled down tells you what type of curls you have. Mine was the most extreme, also known as Botticellli Curls. If I'm not mistaken there are three, maybe 4 different types of curls.

Maria

But I would like to find a dupe.

My daughters bought me the DEVA hair dryer with those frightful, funny hands for Christmas last year. I love the "hand". I can get lift without frizz, or ruining curls. But I am finding letting my hair dry naturally is the best way to go. No heat at all.

I am going to have file a tax return for a small business pretty soon My hair has become a full time job!! Who knew. I dread "hair day"

Maria,

Thank you for the information on the book, I will try to get a hold of it. Funny you mention about how much your hair draws up, mine curls back up like spring. As a teenager, all the girls would get out of the pool and comb out their straight hair, not me. I always would jump back in to keep my hair wet, to keep from getting that big poof of curly frizzy hair! Back then -I had plenty of bandanas, lots of dippity do hair gel, and giant rollers.

I just am always looking for miracle products!

moongirl

I've always used a huge jaw clip to lift up the height of my hair while it did the last bit of drying after I use my diffuser. I leave it in my way drive to work, and when I take it out, it's perfect.

On 10/4/2014 moongirl said:

I just am always looking for miracle products!

moongirl

I used to do the same thing. I used to hate my hair but over the years it and I have come to terms with one another and have agreed to live harmoniously, if not always happily, together. I could open up a hair supply store with products were guaranteed to work but never did. Found some Dippity Do at the dollar store a few years back...anybody want it? lol.

Maria
