I value the opinion of my QVC friends here....advice needed

No where else to turn for help. Loving people on this site are needed. I left a job due to bullying as I am older....I suffered with no help from HR/Mgmt for 18 months. Guess what? They are following me to my new job! I don't know if I want to even go to my new job after being informed of this Friday....Advice please

I would not turn down a new job due to the bullies...don't let them control your life! if they are going to be working at your new job, can you return to your old one? If not, I would tell them upfront to leave you alone and at the first sign of a problem I would go to the HR person and hopefully they are more responsive than your former employer....good luck in your new job!

If you are being harassed, you may wish to seek advice from an attorney. Often there is an initial consultation at no charge. I am sorry that you are going through this very stressful situation.

I was a temp at a factory as are all factory jobs now days....I complained about harrassment and was written up so I put in my notice. I am starting a new job Monday and now people are following me there as it is more money.....I endured age comments and race comments (I am white in a 90% non white industry)Everytime I sought help, I was told I was not a team player....I look 40 but am 57. I got along great with all but my bullies....I don't want to go to my new job.

Kay - this may be wishful thinking on my part, but your new company may possibly have different policies regarding harassment. They may be more receptive to your concerns than your last company was.

I certainly wouldn't quit this job before you even start just because you are dreading what might happen. At least give it a chance and if problems arise, see how their HR department addresses your concerns.

I think many of us have been in a bullying situation in the workplace. (We don't outgrow bullies, we face them even as adults.) I, personally, would just do my job, keep a low profile, and collect my paycheck. I wouldn't let anyone run me away from earning a living.

he may be feeling out the new place too and he won't have his friends there for backup so I say go in with an open mind and a smile and see what happens but don't quit before you start! and maybe, if it starts up again, you arm yourself with a small discreet recording device that way you have evidence of the harassment when you go to the new HR..just a thought

Just a note - many workplaces prohibit recordings (even in cases of harassment). If your new workplace is among them, then any evidence that was gathered via recording will be inadmissible in harassment proceedings. Please familiar yourself with policy if you decide to go this route.

KayinMN ~ Can I assume that your MN in your Nic means you live in Minnesota? I used to live and work there. I can say that having worked in several different states, that MN was the strictest for following up on work place grievances, issues of harassment, etc. I am hoping that this new work place has a much better HR representative, and a Boss who gives a #$%& about his/her workers.

If some of your past co-workers do follow for the better pay, maybe you will be in different departments, and you won't have as much interaction. Hang in there, and try not to let the bullies get to you, but don't take their c*rap either.

If harassment continues from these people, please keep a log, write it down, date, time, what was said, what the Boss said............and make sure the Boss/HR does the same.

Being in management in MN, I wrote down everything about complaints between co-workers, no matter how trivial it sounded at the time. Not saying "your" issues are trivial...but if it's not written down, it's kind of like "he said-she said" and it didn't happen.

If issues continue, I suggest contacting the MN Labor Board. No business wants a visit from them.
