Hello Beauties,

I'm asking for experiences from those who suffer from psoraisis or know someone who does. I'm not asking for medical advice, so if you're inclinced to get on my back about this, go to another forum, as I'm fairly serious about this psoraisis.

Bottom line: My husband waited 4 years with what he considered to be excema until he sought the advice of a physician. Turns out he suffers from psoraisis, an auto-immune disorder.

He is presently on these two meds (rx): Clobetasol ointment; and new today, Psoraisasin, a pill. The OTC products he uses are salicylic acid, vaseline and shea butter. He tried coal tar products, but didn't like the ordor or stains.

What I'd appreciate are your experiences with this very challenging disorder. I'd especially be interested to know if any of you were tested for food intolerances and have since modified your food plan. If so, has this positively affected your psoraisis?

Thank you so much in advance!

I suffer from psoriasis. I had it 3 years ago (first time) and looking back I went to a bad dermatologist who only wanted to treat me with biologic drugs. I ended up taking Stelara shots and they almost killed me! They stopped my red blood cell production and I ended up extremely anemic & weak, got blood clots, thyroid problems, neuropathy. I was in the hospital & nursing home for Physical therapy for 2 1/2 months. I will never ever again use a biologic.

It came back about a year ago and I'm not going to doctors to treat it. I know they will want me to take biologics since I have it over 50% of my body. I'm putting coconut oil on it but it's just making me more comfortable but not making it go away. Prescription creams don't work for me, light therapy doesn't work either. I guess I'll have to address this soon. I didn't know there was a pill. I'll look into that.

It's sad they just treat the symptoms and don't address why it's happening. Diet and food was never mentioned. I got every blood test in the hospital known to mankind and nothing out of the ordinary was found. Although this time I go I will be seeing a better dermatologist. I'm frustrated and angry that my health got so bad I am now disabled.

I hope your husband and I can find more answers and better treatments. I'll certainly let you know if I do.

I apply hexane free castor oil to my patches and it definitely helps. A physician recently told me that ""oils"" will help control it but that it will never go away.

I have a family member who has had great success by removing gluten from her diet. When she follows a gluten free diet, her plaques disappear and when she eats too much gluten, they come back. She has also added probiotics. I hope this will help your husband as well.

I have had psoraisismost of my adult life, sometimes worse that others. I have stopped using anything by RX. Nothing ever really seemed to help. Mostly I just keep it moist (coconut oil) and try to ignore it. Easier in the winter than the summer for sure.

I also have a family member who has severe psoraisis and has done amazingly well on a gluten free diet. He was almost 100% clear. I haven't tried that myself, but if you husband is really suffering it's worth a try. All the RX meds seem to have horrible long term side effects. At least gluten free is a healthy alternative. Today there are so many more gluten free options it would be easy to give it a try. I think you have to give it some time, like 6-8 weeks to really see if it's working. Good luck.

I've had psoriasis for 19 years. I do use Clobetasol with much success and Hydrocortisone Valerate. However, I have found that if I am meticulous about staying moisturized I do far better on a daily basis. I have cut down on dietary fats too, that seemed to help as well (helped my waistline too!). In the winter I use Baby Oil Gel, a few drops in my hands on damp skin was amazing. No more dry flakes on my legs from shaving either! The other plus for me is a sun vacation in the winter! The rays helped my patches a lot! Good luck, it is a frustrating disease. Just keep trying new things!!!

I have tried almost everything & didn't like the continued steroid use as that can cause lots of other issues.

The only 2 things that kept it at bay for me has been 1) UV treatments at derm office - I did this after a breakout and it kept it away for years. The last outbreak was bad - elbows, scalp, back... Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo was recommended online so I tried it - wonderfully cooling and kept my scalp fairly good. My derm then suggested biologic - she had me choose the one I wanted to try and I chose 2) Stelara. I have been on it for a year (shot given in her office every 3 months after 2 starter shots). After about 2 weeks on it starting last August 2013, I was 100% clear and so far (knock on wood) no side effects at all. I am so thankful for this medicine as it has changed my skin and allowed me to put my hair up this summer for the first time in years without worrying about psoriasis on scalp and ears and could wear short sleeves without worrying about my awful elbows.

I would highly recommend trying this and have told everyone I know who suffers that this works! Read all you can first - perhaps one of the other drugs would be more successful. I wish you the best as this issue affects all facets of your life. Best of luck!

I posted a note over on health but will put up information here too. My grandmother had this condition, my 82yo Dad has had this for over 20years and I have flare ups on my elbows when I am stressed or worrying about something.

*BETAMETHASONE Dipropionate Gel 0.05% Augmented* by Fougera helps me and my Dad. A tiny bit goes a long way and stops the flare ups.

My cousin (46yo) has dealt with this for many years and he swears by HUMIRA. It has changed his life and he has had wonderful results. Have not heard him complain about side effects and I am not familiar with this medicine.

I once asked a dermatologist about diet triggers a few years ago but he did not know about dietary concerns with this condition. Docs do not study much nutrition in med school.

I have seen some good suggestions and information here and wish you and your husband best wishes in the quest for relief.

CAT

The Derm changed my life the day he gave me the RX for Clobetasol Propionate Foam 0.05%. I use it once a day, dries right into my scalp, no greasiness and the itching is gone immediately. The one week treatment completely clears my scalp for approx. 4 weeks.

For my "spots" the Derm gives me an RX for Fluocinoide Cream USP, 0.05%. I use it twice a day for a week and then only as necessary when I get a flare up. I see results usually by the second day of use.

Both RX are generic.

I can't believe how much time I wasted fooling around with all the over the counter and natural stuff that doesn't even come close to the effectiveness of the RX's. Life is so much better when I can control this health issue.

I don't believe I was given the Fluocinoide Cream USP 0.05%. I may ask my doc about this. I'm at my wit's end dealing with this. I guess back to a new derm who's supposed to be excellent. I need to get this under control. I am afraid of biologics now so I'll save that as a last resort. They do get rid of the psorisis but the side effects, for me, are not worth it. But I'll never say never.

I have had psoriasis for 23 years , I finally tried remicade infusions and after a few infusions it cleared my skin . I had the worst case and had tried methotrexatse, enbrel ,humira and of course a few steroid ointments , trying all those steroids which in my opinion are more damaging than some of the biologic because you are using this stuff directly on your scalp and it is penetrating through your scalp ,There is no cure only treatments, however do not despair , It is really painful and unsightly ,,I know , Some of the creams I used to make myself more comfortable rat night were vanicream [comes in 16 oz, tub] cetaphil soap . cetaphil cream in 16 oz tub , dr, bronners soaps . My favorite are baby mild ,peppermint ,and lavender .[all organic] They do have tee tree oil and eucalyptus but they are not the best smelling soaps, I also like aquaphor skin ointment at night . A mixture of 50 percent glycerine and 50 per cent witch hazel[thayers brand witch hazel= with no alcohol]put in a spray bottle and sprayed on skin 2 times a day especially after a bath works really good for a lot of people and is eazy to mix , I also liked defense soap[has tee tree oil and eucalyptus . I took peppermint oil capsules 3x a day which helped with the itching ,milk thistle [protects liver] fish oil pills [enteric coated ]you can take otc benedryl or Claritin for itching and to help you sleep ,.Try some of these , A remedy that some used to use is to take a bath into witch you pour 1/2 to 1 cup of lemon joy dishwashing soap [the original[]and soak for 15 min . This softens and removes the scales and helps with itching , Then dry off and apply neutragena body oil [unscented]This is a home remedy and works for some folks ,
