How many days do you wait to wash your hair after you color it?

Hi everyone. I read somewhere that you should wait to wash your hair after you color it. If you do this, how many days do you wait until you wash it? Once you wash, then how often do you wash your hair? Every day, every other?

I don't wash my hair for 24 hours before I color it--I think that's per the instructions Revlon's Colorsilk provides. But then I use the shampoo provided immediately after coloring and make no further adjustments. Colorsilk lasts me about 6-7 weeks.

The instructions that come with the color I use say to wash it right away. I use a product from Sally's. I recall when I had my color done at a salon, they washed it immediately.

I wait 2 days before I wash it after I get my color (non-bleach) highlights. I generally only wash my hair every 2-3 days.

I shampoo the very next day - only 24 hours later and never have a problem with my color.

Almost the same here. I try to eek out washing to three days whenever possible, new color or not. My hair is frightening in the morning. Bed head that makes the dogs think twice about waking me. So, I must wet it and style it. On non-wash days I use cold water to wet my hair.

I colored my hair for 30 plus years as I went grey in my 20's....I would only wash my hair once a week as to keep the color true as long as possible. For someone that does not have white hair,( the color pulls with every wash), I would wait three days after coloring to let the color set.

Two full days, so I actually wash it the third day after coloring it.

It's been recommended by many experts for years now, because it gives the cuticle a chance to seal in the color, especially if you're only using semi or demi -permanent dye.

As far as my usual schedule goes, I wash my (baby-fine/naturally-wavy/dry) hair every 2-3 days.

Something that is also recommended by experts for good hair and scalp health.

I wash my hair the next day & usually wash it daily. My color stays just fine except next to my scalp. For some reason it turns silver after 3 weeks or so. Hmmmmm.

Where I have my hair done, they do the base color, then wash, then the highlights, then wash. I have never had a problem even if I wash my hair the next day.

I always wash my hair before I have it colored. I was told years ago that your hair takes color better if it is clean.

If I don't exercise outside, then I can go about 3 days even 4. Then there are times I wash it every day.

I have never had my hair fade.

I wait 3-4 days after using my favorite Revlon Colorsilk. Never had a problem with it either.

I wait two days. If I am going out and need to have nicer hair, I just rinse it well and run a few pumps oF WEN through it to get tangles out.

My normal schedule is washing with WEN every two days. My color holds very well.

I never wait, before or after. It has never been a problem. I always use a colorproof shampoo/cleanser.

Interesting. I had a colorist tell me hair takes color better if it's dirty. (?) But I always wash it the day before because I don't want my colorist to see dirty hair-ha!

After color I try to wait 24 hours to wash, but I have washed the next day and really don't notice any difference.

Just like painting, clean hair without oil, cond., styler best base for new color. Wen after.

I wait two days. I wash first per instructions - I use a demi. When I had salon color I used to get a burning feeling on my scalp. It was torture so I washed the next day. I use a packet of scalp protector from Sally now to keep from getting the scalp""crawlies"".
