Funny that you ask. I recently decided that wearing Bare Escentuals foundation just looked wrong on me, so I switched to a very old favorite, Max Factor Pan Stik. Several of my friends use it and I found that it works really well for me.

So, now I don't have to use a powdered blush. I went to CVS and bought a few cream blushes that I love:

Loreal Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in #701/Rose Gold Lift (it gives a really nice, dewy glow that I love).

Maybelline Master Glaze by FaceStudio. I got Coral Sheen but I think it's too pigmented so now I use a tiny bit and it looks very good.

Revlon Cream Blush in Flushed. It looks like bright pink but if you use a small amount, it's really pretty.

They were all well under $10 and now I have fun with my makeup. All my Bare Escentuals is moving on.

Good luck and enjoy your new blushes!

I am 59, light to medium skin tone, white hair. It seems every blush I try looks too garish, doll like. I do need the color. What blush is just a hint of glow without screaming old lady? The last one I tried was IT cosmetics cheek tint....it was too bright. Skinn's teen tone cream blush is OK. Laura Geller's baked seem too pigmented and bright....I have a bunch of others in my drawer that I just can not use.

You didn't say what color you're looking for, but what immediately came to mind for me is Maybelline Dream Mousse blush. I have the color Peach Satin and it's very light and gives just a hint of color. If you prefer pinks, perhaps there's another color available that would work for you.

I am also fair and sometimes find blushes are too pigmented and hard to tone down, so I know what you mean.

You want one with staying power, not too much to start. I mostly use LG baked, but don't apply it directly to my face. I swirl it, tap brush then sometime blot on tissue before applying it. I also found that finding the correct brush helped. I was using a kabuki which was too intense.

There was a thread last week, I think, about light pink blushes that included some great suggestions. When someone says they want less color a lot suggest peach. They don't always work for r because I need cool-toned cosmetics.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll find something great!

Hi, gazelle: I am older than you and have a fair complexion. I have used LG's baked blush (Golden Apricot) for a couple of years and love the way it looks. Perhaps the problem with some of the blushes you have tried are the result of the wrong brush and/or the application. I use a very light hand and a large fluffy brush and find that it looks very natural. I usually take a second look before I leave the house and occasionally add a bit more.

I am 60 yo w/white hair & light/med complexion w/pink undertone. If you are looking for a crème blush, I use MAC "Ladyblush". No shimmer but gives a dewy from within glow. If you like powder, I use Hourglass Ambient Blush in "Etheral Glow". Again, no shimmer but dewy natural look. Hope you find what you are looking for. It can be very trying.

Yes, application is everything....I have left the house and looked in a mirror later and almost wanted to run back to car it looked so bad!

You might try using a soft powder puff instead of a brush.

I remember my Mother's little tub of red rouge. She just used her fingers.

Nars is my favorite line for blush, and his O blush is extremely popular, but for a mature complexion it should be noted that the color contains a slight shimmer. I do not think it would be an appropriate blush to be worn alone. It looks better highlighting or enhancing another blush or bronzer. In fact, O is frequently available in a duo compact with a lovely matte light brown bronzer. I use that combination once in a while as a daytime blush option. If going with Nars I recommend Dolce Vita which is a matte light pink/rose.

I am in love with Laura Geller's gelato blush. I have the papaya and it is just the softest hint of color, or I can apply heavier by adjusting the brush for more intense color. I don't think you could go wrong with either color.

I use Laura Gellar Blush & Brighten Pink Grapefruit. It's a popular shade because it's a very natural looking color and goes with so many different skin tones. If the Q doesn't have it in stock, try her website. I use a small kabuki brush with it so I can easily build how much I want to apply.
