OT. Got our Rhodesian Rescue

Just wanted to let you ladies know since I had asked about the breed a few weeks ago. We have been working with RR Rescue for a few months now. Just picked up our girl yesterday. She is so sweet and pretty obedient. Had never been potty trained. But so far so good. Thank you for all your responses.

congratulations! I would love to be able to get a dog, a big dog. I live in a condominium. If I had a house I would definitely add dogs to my menagerie. do you have any idea what she is mixed with?

She is not a mix. She is purebred. If you are interested in this breed but do your homework, they are great dogs but a sight and scent hound, contact RRRescue. I did lots of research before we thought about the breed. She is four.

Congratulations, periwinklerocket! They are gorgeous dogs! Whenever I see one, I always say "hello" to the owner and comment on the beauty of the animal. Of course, they agree.

I must be seeing things :-) I could swear I read that she was a mix. when I have the room I will be hitting the Vizsla rescue, and the Corgi, and the Newfoundland, and the Doberman...lol

Congrats and bless you for being a rescue mamma! I had a Rhodie named Cobie as a neighbor for a couple years, and he was so sweet! I rescued a dachsy last fall, and he's been a true joy for us, though is still having the potty problems too. We're being patient, and working on it! Good luck with everything! :-)

My brother has a Rhodesian mix that was a rescue. She is a rather large dog about 100 pounds. She had been running in a coyote pack and was caught in a trap. ""Rosie"" has come a long way and is a great pet. She doesn't like to let my brother out of her sight but she is friendly to all people. She can't be trusted around cats because they are sure that what she had been living off when wild but she is great with other dogs and people.

I have a friend who has had at least 4 pure bred Rhodesians over the years from the RRR. They have all been great pets.

I don't understand why people, when they hear the word "rescue", automatically think that the dogs are mixed breeds.

Every breed recognized by the AKC has a Parent Club--the Club for the specific breed only and those clubs rescue, whether it's done by the Parent Club members themselves or referred to groups that are approved by the Parent Club.

If people like a particular breed of dog but don't have the money to purchase a well-bred one from a reputable breeder -or- they don't want to go through the puppy phases of initial training, etc.. they can look to that breed's Parent Club and contact their rescue. Sure there are adoption fees involved and a screening process but these rescue dogs have usually been in foster care and the foster family knows each dog inside and out in order to make a good match for dog and adoption family.
