Does anyone know of a good haircolor that covers gray,

but is not a Permanent haircolor. I used Clairol Loving Care which lasted about 6 weeks for me, and now they've discontinued. Clairol Loving Care slowly washed out. I've tried Clairol Natural Instincts which lasts 20 some weeks, but I like the easiness of Loving Care and the way it washes out. It's very gentle on hair.

I just checked Amazon & eBay & found some - they also bring up Clairol Nice & Easy, don't know how that compares. Google it online for other sources.

Have you thought about using Just For Men? It only covers the gray and last six weeks.

I tried it once when I was transitioning between color and didn't want to do anything permanent until I ""lived with"" a color for a while.

Clairol's discontinued "Loving Care" has been replaced by their great "Nice'n' Easy Non-Permanent", as well as their awesome "Natural Instincts Semi Permanent".

Both are ammonia-free, and more gentle on your scalp and hair.

Results do vary, though, as to how long the dye will cling to your gray. But if you need to touch up your roots and/or hairline in-between DIY colorings, just get a super-easy-to-use "Roux Tween Time Color Stick".

With the two Clairol demi and semi permanent hair colors above, I'd recommend not washing your hair more than 2-3 times per week, always using a color-depositing shampoo (like the excellent "Tressa Watercolors"), always using a conditioner with UV protection, and always using a hair mask or deep conditioning treatment once a week.

This will help to keep your color looking vibrant and fresh, and it will also give your grays - and the rest of your hair! - the best chance it has to hold onto that new color for as long as possible.

I suggest using YOUTH HAIR. It is a white lotion/cream in a plastic bottle that you can use to gradually take away the grey. My husband used it and it's been around a long time.

I'll check that out, Kathy. I've seen it a few places but always leftovers and never my color.

I've seen that advertised and might give that a try. I always thought those pictures made the men's hair look a little yellow. Don't want yellow-grays. Thanks for your suggestion.

I've used both Natural Instincts & Nice & Easy. I've not liked either as much as Loving Care. I do as you say with the washing, but I don't have good results with the color. I use a Cool Light Brown and after a couple of washings, the gray turns like a light orangey color. It's easy on the hair. I don't want to go darker. I used the Light Ash Brown in Loving Care, and the color was perfect. I'm kinda searching. I want temporary color, and my gray is getting resistant. I don't mind some gray showing, but not too much as I have no contrast and just look gray hair and face. Would love to gray as beautifully as I see some, but my gray is not coming in pretty.

You're correct in only using shades with the word "cool" or "ash" in them, as it sounds like your hair naturally 'pulls' red like mine. I use medium-to-dark ash/cool brown, BTW.

If all else fails, you may need to consider the more-thorough gray coverage of permanent color, but only those that are plant-based and therefore much healthier for your hair. Just Google for names and reviews.

Sometimes, we have to stop clinging to the old in order to get benefits from the new. To start being more open-minded...

Before I had my hair professionally done, I used various brands of hair color. ALL of them did well on the gray. Isn't that what they are for????

I have had good luck with Superior Preference and Color Silk.

Garnier wasn't very good and neither was Ferria.

I had grays that shed the color off or took it very unevenly in both cases.

. The problem is Y.H. doesn't lighten. I too am having a hard time with coverage. My hair is now very resistant to tints. A new thing...

I have a box of Natural Instincts that I am going to try. It does have a bit of peroxide in it just enough to allow the color to be absorbed, says it lasts for 28 shampoos. Yes, I miss Loving Care. I used it long before I had grey hair, just for the temporary color. Then there is Fanciful, only lasts for one shampoo,

I use the clairol grey solutions. Its just like the loving care thats been discontinued.

No ammonia or peroxide and i think it lasts longer that the loving care did.

Clairol's "Nice 'N Easy Gray Solution" is actually permanent hair color, not non-perm like their discontinued "Loving Care".

In fact, I checked their website and it seems that they've replaced the 'Gray Solution' with their new(er) "Age Defy", and it has same or better gray coverage.

The OP seems to be interested in only less-harsh demi or semi -permanent hair dye, like she's used previously and had good results with.

But it's great that what you're now using from Sally's does such a nice job for you. And that you can still buy it there and from other B&M stores, plus online vendors such as Ebay. 8)
