Hi Ladies,

Nordstrom is probably my fave store. No, I'm not a high-volume shopper there, but I do appreciate the free shipping on the website AND the wonderful CS I usually receive in-store. However, this week I received my Anniversary items and 5-6 small things came in 3-4 different boxes. One box-Are you ready for this?-contained the 3 FREE SAMPLE packets that came with my order. A box, about 10 x8 (???) contained 3 items that could have fit in a very small envelope.

Not a huge gripe, but still. I love so much about this store, the philosophy of good CS behind their success, but I DO NOT love their packing and shipping of items.

My things always come very nicely packed. This year I only ordered a pair of boots. They had cardboard inserts & nice tissue separating the boots. The box had a band around it & tucked inside another shipping box. I love the way they ship, unlike other shopping sites everything always arrives nice. And it's FREE, so why complain.

Listen, I am not complaining about the Free Shipping! I love Free Shipping! And I've been a long-time Nordstrom shopper. The reason I mention it AT ALL is that I assumed that they would be aware and conscious of the environmental impact of so much STUFF, so many added boxes, brown paper. I should have made it clear that I was not complaining b/c it was/is a "hassle" for me. Rather, I think it seems a little outdated and silly to ship this way.

When ordering from Amazon, for instance, they group as many of your items together as they can. Especially convenient if everything is coming from Amazon directly, and not from an outside company they are connected with.

My items come beautifully from Nordies & the free ship, returns & CS is just the best.

How nice that they made sure you got your freebies!!

I like the items to come separately, especially from different departments or not.

No complaints from me.

Wow, okay. Well, maybe I'm the only one who finds it weird that a huge online retailer would choose to use a bunch of boxes to ship a few, small items? I find it strange that this doesn't strike anyone as odd. It's like getting a set of pens delivered in a washing machine box. Just seems wasteful to me.

Amazon treats their workers very poorly, only give you 30 days exactly to return and some of their items come rough and look like the left overs. Not a fan of the company at all. They have been given a big government contract, I think to help report on consumers or maybe they purchased the Washington Post and it's a big conflict of interest.

Many of Nordies items come directly from the vendor and not the store.

Kachina-This is what I'm talking about. Thank you. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy. Well, maybe I am. But that's another story.

For some reason this reminds me of something that happened this week. My child goes to a doc that has a terrible parking lot. It is so frequently over parked and over full that people have to park on the lawn, or the side of the road. He also schedules patients one on top of another so that everyone tends to arrive at the same time. I was griping about fitting my car in a spot the other day and my son says, "Mom, I thought you liked Dr. X???". I said, of course I like Dr. X, but he needs to address this issue b/c it's getting untenable.

That's what I'm trying to say about my shipment. Stuff-wise, environment-wise, it seems that Nordstrom needs to fix this.

Do you mean it's "apples & oranges" b/c of the volume difference in customers? I totally see that. But I think that other retailers could easily take some pointers in terms of packaging (most of it) from Amazon. Nordstrom is not a start-up, mom & Pop operation.

Hopi-If Nordstrom was a larger retailer and sold similar items to Amazon, I would surely shop from Nordstrom.

I have had a great experience through the years with Amazon.

Hi Honnybrown-Yes. I could complain. And certainly if it were to keep happening I would. They really DO listen to their customers. It's not really worth it to lodge a complaint for me at this point. And this is not taking up a huge amount of mental space for me, ladies. It was just an observation! Really. Not meaning to start a packaging war here.

Just that this board is my happy place and we've all shared our complaints, both large and small, that I felt "safe" stating out loud something that had to do with shopping. Beauty shopping in particular!

Wow. I am really missing here why and how this thread could rub members the wrong way? We complain and talk about our moisturizer pilling, pumps on shampoos not working, and colors not being *quite* what we expected. And yes, this issue is terribly, horribly, important to me! I just can't get it out of my head! I won't be able to function OR sleep tonight because of it. What's a girl to do????

I love Nordie's free shipping & nicely boxed items. Yesterday I received a blouse from hsn thrown in a white plastic sack that looked like it had been run over a couple of times it was so black. Kohl's ships the same way. No complaints about Nordstrom from me.

Ordering and returning to Nordstroms is so easy, there is nothing that I don't like. I assume that some items come from different locations and thus the separate boxes. I don't worry about that at all, I recycle all of our boxes.

The reason that your items are not shipped together is because they all do not come from the same shipping facility. Nordstrom has 3 facilities that they ship from. They used to ship from all their stores but a few years ago they stopped shipping from all the stores and went to 3. I know this because my son worked in Nordies shipping, mystery solved........
