His older formula TT oil was just organic jojoba oil and TT essential oil. The price increased on organic jojoba oil (which is why the new oils were formulated and more expensive). I don't know how using coconut oil as a carrier would work, but I can't see any reason why jojoba and TT wouldn't give you the exact same results as his older formula oil assuming you come up with the appropriate concentration of TT. A few posters have given some information about this in the past...

I am going to make my own TT oil and LAV oil when I need more of those because I like the consistency and performance of the older oils I have (SAM, LAV, and FIG) better than the newer treatment oils. That's just my personal preference

I am on the fence about purchasing the tea tree oil treatment from Wen. I have read so much about being able to make your own for a fraction of the cost that it is hard for me to pull the trigger. I am not trying be cheap (bought two BGT gallons in June and just ordered the SHP RTM, CC and styling creme/mousse set) but if it is basically tea tree oil mixed with carrier oils...any constructive advice?

My guess will be yes, because of the high quality ingredients he uses. For what it will cost to try to replicate it, you are better off buying the real thing. Organic, high quality oils are expensive.

I don't use Wen since I have to wash my hair at least every other day & it would be to expensive to do that with Wen. If I were you I would get a small bottle to experiment with to see how you like it before I added tea tree oil to the whole gallon of shampoo. The last time I posted my ingredients, I couldn't post.

Mine was greasy and messy to use. I have none of those problems with Wen. I didn't notice any growth with my concoction.

Cold-pressed, organic golden jojoba oil plus tea tree essential oil is no where near as expensive as Chaz's oil. His first variety of tea tree oil did not have all the essential oils as his newest incarnation of treatment oil, so I cannot speak to that version, as I do not know how easy it would be to replicate given the inclusion of so many treatment based ingredients.

If you are talking about making something similar to the first variety of hair oil he offered, then you can do it at a fraction of the price using top quality ingredients.

Better? I don't think it's necessarily better. I use and like his oils, but I also make my own because I'm sensitive to some things due to allergies and I like being able to control what's in the things I use, when I can. The only thing he puts in his oil blend that I haven't been able to find is the abyssinian oil, and I haven't looked hard for it.

I make my own tea tree blend because so I can avoid the peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils he adds to his.

You can buy quality carrier and essential oils and make your own for a fraction of the cost. And you can customize what you're looking for. I still use his though, because I like the seasonal scents and the oils come with kits I buy sometimes.

I have used coconut oil in the past in my hair and really liked it so when I was looking at options for tea tree oil masks/scalp treatments I saw a few people mention mixing it with coconut oil. Jojoba may be the better choice?? I guess it would just be trial and error!

Yeah, what the heck...give it a try! Maybe mix it up in small doses until you settle on what works best for you. I think the TT is mostly to treat the scalp and coconut oil is more beneficial in treating the hair, but if your scalp can handle the coconut oil that might be an extra nice combination.

I swear by Chaz's tea tree eucalyptus oil. I use it as an overnight treatment 3 times a week. As Honny mentioned, I don't have the oily/greasy issues with it that I had when I used organic coconut oil overnight. But I have been giving thought to experimenting with making my own to supplement my precious WEN oil. Some weekends when I find I have a few hours for a treatment and the oily factor isn't an issue, I'd like to have my own 'cheap' version on hand. I don't want to waste my WEN oils for a two or three hour treatment.

The last time I posted my ingredients, I couldn't post.

Mine was greasy and messy to use. I have none of those problems with Wen. I didn't notice any growth with my concoction. With Wen, I see growth!

What were your carrier oils? My blend is not greasy, I use 50% jojoba, 25% argan oil and 25% sweet almond oil as my carrier oil blend.
