Seche Vite top coat makes my nail polish peel

Does anyone else have this problem with this top coat? I love how shiny it makes my nails and how fast it dries, but my nail polish starts peeling off in just a day or two. I apply it while my colored nail polish is still wet the way it says to so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if it's just the product. Any solutions?

I've heard this from other people here, but I've been using it for a long time, and it's never happened to me.

I wait two full minutes after my last coat of polish, and then I apply it very carefully. I assume you're doing something similar, so I'm not sure why you're getting different results. But I guess some things work better for some than for others.

Everyone I know who uses it really loves it, but - as I said - I've read some posts here about people who don't get the same results.

I also have the same problem, follow directions just like you and still, within 24 hours my nails have a chip, geez. I have also tried many other topcoats and the same thing, just don't understand why I can't get a topcoat to work. Maybe I just do to many chores, lol.

yes, only when I use seche vite. It isn't really like a normal chip, more like it's peeling off.

I have OPI polish on right now and it's starting to peel. It does it with all polishes, no matter the brand.

I've never had a problem with peeling with seche vite, and I've used it for years. The top coat is designed to be applied over wet polish. Make sure you apply it immediately after last coat of color. Also, your base coat could be the culprit. DON'T use seche vite base coat. It is the pits. Choose another one.

I had the same problem. No base coat - Essie polish and SV topcoat. The whole thing came off in one swoop. It looked like a fake nail. Never seen anything like it. I went back to Sally Hansen MEGA SHINE in the mirrored bottle. It surface dries the polish and looks wet when dried.

I use OPI nail polish and it doesn't peel. Try using nails, Inc. top coat. Never a problem using that brand.

i have not yet tried SV, but i have read such good things about it, ... i have a bottle waiting to try. i have read about the peeling problem, and it has been suggested that you put a coat of Gelous on top of your np before you put on the SV and that will stop the peeling. i am only passing on what i have read, it is not something i have tried, but a lot of people swear by this method. good luck!

It's happening to me, too, and it doesn't matter what brand of polish I use. I polished my nails and sometimes by the next morning, the polish literally curled up on my nail and then came off. It's the weirdest thing. I use different polish brands, and it happens with all of them.

I had used the bottle of Seche Vite for quite a few months before it started to happen. This bottle probably since Christmas. And it's only been the last six weeks or so that I noticed it.

One morning, I was talking to a GF at work (I have a tendency to move my hands when talking) and I was telling her about the bottle of Seche Vite. She stopped me, grabbed my hand and said, "What happened?" I looked and, sure enough, the polish was completely off one of my nails. It's not chipping....it's literally curling up and falling off.

And yes, it is only with Seche Vite top coat. I switched to a different top coat and have had no further problems.

There are better top coats out there, shinier and dries faster, I recommend Sally Hansen Mega Shine Extended Wear or Poshe, I have used them all!!!

I only have this problem when I use Butter London color. I generally use Orly Bonder as my base coat and Essie or OPI as my color and Seche Vite as my top coat and it wears like iron.

When I've used Butter London, the color just flakes off. I have better luck with Butter London when I use Sticky as my base coat.

I think some color formulas just need certain top and base coats to work effectively.

I use SV top coat, and have not encountered the problem that OP has. However, I never took the time to read the application method ( apply to wet polish ) because I always let the second coat of nail polish go for about 15 minutes before applying any top coat, including the SV top coat, and it has worn very well for me. Longer than the other top coats I have used in the past, including Sally Hansen. I don't use expensive nail polish either, just the typical stuff you can pick up at Target, Walmart, etc. I don't know if my inadvertent lack of knowledge in the appropriate application of the product, as labeled, has made a difference, but you could try it my way. Let your last coat of color polish dry a bit, before applying SV top coat and see if it peforms better for you.

I love the look of my nails with a top coat but find I get better wear without a top coat. Crazy! I think perhaps the additional layers makes it too thick sometimes. Also, I have heard Seche Vite shrinks when it dries so that could be why it peels.

I have the same problem. It melts my images too. I stopped using it and like the Formula 2 top coat much better.

I gave up on Seche years ago for that very same reason. My nail tech thought that I was crazy because everyone just loves it. I have finally found something that works great for me. It is Revlon Colorstay Base and Top and can be used with OPI and China Glaze.

I usually use Sticky or OPI natural nail base coat and then my polish and then Seche and I've not had a peeling problem. I love Seche, it is so much better than so many other topcoats out there. The Sally topcoat in the silver bottle is good too. Sometimes I use that one on my toes, I think it is a bit more durable for toes vs. the Seche.

Like others have said let your polish dry really well before you apply the Seche. I do that. If I don't and apply it while my polish is wet, the color of the polish comes off on my Seche brush and I get it in the bottle, which I try not to do.

One thing you shouldn't do is apply those drying drops or spray on top of the Seche! This makes it look really wrinkly and takes the shine away and makes it look smeared, I discovered. If you're using drying drops or the sprays, do that instead of applying your topcoat.
