Maybe you're pressing too hard. I use the 1. and the .05 (on the areas around my nose and my lower eyelids). I just read that you need not go higher for optimum results. I do use a serum before I roll and follow up after I'm done with a night therapy moisturizer. It's working for me.

In addition to dermaroll, I do exfolliate often and every few months treat myself to a professional peel at my PS's office. When I add up what I spend on good skin care, it's far less $$ than people spend on Dr. P's products or any other commercial skin care on QVC. And I get results.

Sunscreen every day--rain or shine. 30+ for every day use. More SPF if I'm going to be out in the sun.

For me it is painful altho nothing to bad but it does make my eyes water and my nose run when I roll. I apply basically no pressure. Maybe I need to go with a smaller needle size.

See my post above. -- going down in size was less uncomfortable. We want to be and STAY at 0.05. Again, see my post above and search previous threads.

Just thought I'd check in and see how you're doing with your dermaroller. I do mine 2x monthly and use 2 different sizes. I'm 72 and want to preserve what I got as long as I can. I've been dermarolling for about 3 years and my skin looks good. Nothing magical or dramatic. Just good looking skin.

Per Dr. Setterfield's guidelines, I use the 0.05 once per month. He said that size is optimal for anti-aging purposes, longer needles don't deliver as good results, and if you roll more than once monthly you're interrupting the collagen rebuilding process.

I've been following this protocol (except for a two week hiatus when I was using the Tria Anti Aging Laser) for about 4 months, and I'm beginning to see some improvement. Like you, nothing dramatic, but it takes time. My best friend has been following this protocol for about 6 months, and he mentioned the other day he just looks GOOD, can't put his finger on it, attributes to the dermaroller.

Yes, but I took a very, very long break due to absolutely no time at all. I've been managing a very large swim team since May 1 and was lucky to get to bed with a clean face. I began seeing an improvement in texture but not significant reduction in fine lines. May be that I stopped for so long but I do want to start again. I

I still haven't started because I read recently that many derms prefer you to be retinol or RA free for at least 3 weeks prior to commencing and I want to finish my first round with Kate Somerville's Retasphere. I checked with my own dermatologist and he felt strongly about that too. Once Retasphere is done, I'll break from all retinol use and start rolling for a bit. I only have a .5 now so it will be once a month. I hope to pick up a .2 or .3 to use a few times weekly too.

I will admit that the picture lyninMI posted certainly motivates me because that patient had the exact same issue I have on my left cheek (a section of lax skin) and in her after, it was no longer visible at all. It was completely smooth where she once had her lax skin. I believe the time frame was 18 months which might sound like an eternity but really isn't when you think about it. Plus I have to think there were gradual improvements along the way and I'll take those too.

I love hearing about everyone's progress though. It just makes sense, to me anyway, that rolling over time could have a very positive impact on our skin. It's just not an overnight fix but then what is, other than professional intervention that is.

Timely thread, I am doing my .05 monthly dermarolling today. Then I have a smaller dermaroller that I use 2x per week. Like Maren, I am also following the Setterfield protocol. I do like it and will continue with it.

I feel with all that I do I'm in it for the long haul. By the way little miss sunshine, it is women like you that give me hope. I am in my fifties and I don't ever want to give up on myself. It's so nice to see women in their seventies doing the same. I will always want to look good. You inspire me.

Started the .05 in January once a month. Just did it yesterday. Also have the smaller one I use when I remember which is not enough. I noticed yesterday or the day before that my face seemed to be looking better but wasn't sure if it is just my imagination. I use and have used for almost two years the NuFace and Lightstim almost daily which have given me very positive results. Hadn't thought that the derma roller might be taking it a notch already but maybe. I'm 69 and more jowly than wrinkly. I apply green tea serum before rolling (also before the Lightstim) and then after rolling apply the White Lotus serum. I'm not younger looking but not bad for my age if I say so myself. Also noticed the other day that I'm using a lot less on my skin than I had been. Basically just vitamin C, sometimes NCN's DNA serum, matrixyl and then the green tea serum. Just got a compliment on my skin the other day. Always surprises me as I was not blessed with good skin but it sure looks pretty good now for an old broad.

I have been consistently derma rolling for about 8 months now. I use a 1.5 once every 4 weeks. My skin is plumper and I have pink in my cheeks again (I am 61). It is somewhat painful so if I wasn't seeing a difference I wouldn't bother with it. I highly recommend it. Just do your homework first.

You might give it a try and see if you prefer the 0.05 length.

So it does take time.

Where would I find where Bella Carro and Lyn in MI shared their findings please? This sounds really interesting and would love to know more.

Just once a month!!! Not weekly, bi-weekly, whatever. Couldn't be simpler!! Maybe one or the other will be along to give a quick summation. :-) If you're seriously interested, you could check out Dr. Lance Setterfield's book -- around $60 on amazon.

Thank you, I will try and find the old threads/comments.

What is the best dermaroller to get for a beginner aged 63? I assume I just need the .5 to start with?

heathermary,

I began rolling 2 months ago. The way I started was to purchase a .2 and a .5. I use the .5 the first of the month and for the rest of the month, I use the .2 every other or every third day. I purchased mine from Amazon.com.

Having done it for only 2 months, of course I have not noticed any big results. I didn't expect to. I think this is a long term procedure and the results will be subtle. I am a sagger and have no expectations of this helping that, but if it did, GREAT! I am hoping for an increase of collagen and at the very least, a brightened complexion.

I was intimidated to do it the first time, but once you do it, it is pretty simple. There is a difference in the way the .5 feels compared to the .2. Just remember that YOU are in control of how hard you press down the roller.

If you decide to try it, I think you will be glad.

BTW I am 61.

On 7/2/2014 MarenSeattle said:
On 7/2/2014 beautybee said:
On 7/1/2014 the dolce vita said:
Wouldn't this be miraculous if something so no frills and basic made all the difference??!!

Just was thinking about trying this on my hands to thicken up the skin to hide the new veins showing through. It was suggested on Youtube.

Where did you ladies find Dr. Setterfields protocol and where is the best place and type of dermaroller to buy?

I always roll my hands and neck. Whatever treatment I do to my face I always apply to my hands and neck. That includes retinol, vitamin c serum, and the lightstim. I purchased my first roller from owndoc dot com, then I purchased an MT roller from Hautelook when they had a sale, and the latest smaller roller (also an MT), from Amazon.

Did you prefer the MT to owndoc's, beautybee?

Hi Maren! I don't have a preference. I think because when I purchased the one from Owndoc it was the 1.0. That is before I read about the Setterfield protocol. My MT rollers are the .5 and the 2.5. I think they are good quality rollers. You can't go wrong buying rollers from either place. I know some people do well getting very inexpensive rollers from ebay, but you have to be careful with the quality.

At this time I may alternate my 1.0 with the .5 until I need new ones. Then I will stick with the .5 for the monthly rolls. I use my Isomers firming serum immediately after my roll. Hopefully Manuela will have the big bottle of hyaluronic acid available later this year. I plan to get it just for my monthly roll.

Oh and as if I don't have enough beauty routines to do, I also use a Lyapko roller on my head. Lol! Brings circulation and makes hair grow. I learned about it from Tonya Zavasta. She sells the large one on her site but I managed to get a less expensive one from an ebay seller.
