PMD and Retinol

I just received my PMD yesterday and flipped through the quick start guide. I noticed it said not to use it if you use a retinol or Retin A, and to wait 7 days after stopping those before giving yourself the first PMD treatment. I use a retinol every night, and really hate to stop. I've read here that the 2 essentials to good skin care are a retinol and a sunscreen. Soooo...what do you do? Is it possible to begin a retinol once your skin becomes accustomed to the PMD treatment? Or maybe use the PMD only 1/month so you can use retinol for 3 out of 4 weeks? YIKES! Need your advice. Please and thanks,

Deb

If you use any kind of retinol or even exfoliate, your skin will be very sensitive. The first time I used mine I actually caused abrasions, enough to scab. Not a good look. Just be very careful and do not go over the same area too much, like they show on TV. Good luck.

Two days before and after using the PMD, stop Retina. I use the PMD on Mondays, Retina on Wednesday through Friday. I have no problems with my skin reacting. I've been using Retina and dermabrasion products for 20 years, so my skin is used to the intensity. If you are new to skincare or using exfoliants, I would take it easy or talk to your derm. Personally, I use Dr. Denese Hydroshield the same day as the PMD and it contains retinol.

If you are unsure how your skin might react, I recommend using the PMD on the inside of your forearm first and test the retinol. Wait a few days and see what happens.

PMD also sells Grey discs that are not included in the QVC offer with the extras. They are the least abrasive, very sensitive discs. If you are new to the PMD and dermabrasion, I recommend using the training disc week one. Get the Grey Very Sensitive Discs and use for the next 4 weeks. Then go to the blue disc for a minimum of four weeks. Work your way up to the green. Really no reason to go to red unless you have skin of steel. ;-)

This a great question. Susandee already said this, but we support what she said. You shouldn't use Retinol 2 days before or after using the PMD. So if you want to use the PMD once a week, you will only be able to use Retinol for 3 days that week (since 4 days will have to be excluded for PMD use). If you decide to use the PMD once a month (which won't bring the results you desire as quickly) you can use retinol all days that month except for 4 days when you use the PMD. So that could be 26 days of a 30 day month. Hope this helps!

Have a wonderfully confident day!

I use the PMD and Retin A. After using the PMD I wait two days before using retin A. I use the PMD once a week on Tuesdays, use other serums containing retinol (PTR fusion or Dr. Gross ferulic & retinol) and then Retin A again thereafter. No irritation.

Question: I've been interested in the Le Mieux sonic facial device and was wondering if this might be a good alternative to using the PMD - anyone's thoughts on this?

I don't have personal experienc with the Le Mieux sonic facial device so I can't say for sure. However, from what I've read and heard, it does the same essential thing as the clarisonic, just on a more intense level. And I know a lot of people use both the Clarisonic and PMD tool together becuase they perform different functions. I think that is an interesting question though! I'm pretty darn happy with the PMD tool right now myself
