I am fair - light and am neutral leaning cool (if that makes sense), and I've had great luck with both of these brands. I wear Missha almost every day, in 21, and loreal lumi, at times. Good luck!!

I am having such a difficult time getting a good foundation shade.

I am very fair and pretty much want to even out my complexion. I don't have any major correcting needs.

I would say the tone is neutral. I am getting way too much yellow for my preference.

My latest failures are Edward Bess and Bare Minerals serum foundation. They are so yellow they make my blush look coral instead of pink.

I chose the Bare Minerals from their website, thinking I was following their instructions. I got Porcelain, which was described as being for those that were fair with pink undertones. I don't have significant undertones of anything. I THOUGHT I was choosing for less yellow-ness.

Am I misinterpreting descriptions when I try to filter out too much yellow?

Hyacinth

Hyacinth, check out the Missha products. They lean toward pinker tones. I am fair, cool and I give up on most other foundations. Missha has #13, fair, #21 fair/light and #23 medium. Also Lioele has a really nice gel foundation that I just started using and it is amazing. It covers well, needs no primer and no concealer or powder. It dries to a powder finish. Check it out.

Maybe try getting color-printed at Sephora though that's no guarantee. I haven't purchased the latest versions of Serous Skincare foundations, but they were really perfect for a neutral undertone IMO. They only had 3 shades back then, can't remember if shell or champagne was lightest but it was nice.

Give Lucy Minerals a try, right now they are having 25% off, you can get sample sizes of all of the products...the full size products are reasonably priced...I have used Lucy for over a year and have never looked back.

I also have pink undertones and am fair/light. I was looking for a new foundation and kep getting too much yellow in EL & BB etc.

I found CoverFx - their own website or Sephora.

They have a skillion shades divided into cool, warm, neutral from porcelain to deeps.

I've also found success with MU that color matches like JM and the old Perricone NFF.

I haven't checked Clinique recently, but they used to have porcelain and light shades.

Two suggestions:

Lisa Eldridge has a wonderful video series on foundation, including the two below:

http://www.lisaeldridge.com/video/25670/how-to-find-the-right-shade-of-foundation/#.U6ImdfldXTo

http://www.lisaeldridge.com/video/25667/how-to-shop-for-the-perfect-foundation/#.U6InAfldXTo

As she says, it is necessary to try the foundation on to get a good color match. If you have a Sephora, Ulta or BE store near by, you can try different brands, shades and see how they look. They should give you some samples to take home.

There is a great selection of colors.

I'm very fair and wear #115.

I always like to mention "Jane Iredale" too. I love her powder foundation.

MAC has a wide range of foundation colors, from cool to neutral to warm. The one thing to keep in mind is that MAC foundation shades are the reverse of how most of us think of warm/cool tones.

MAC shades run by number with lower numbers being the lightest and higher numbers being the darkest.

There are letters for the different tones.

C = Cool (yellow, golden, olive)

NC = Neutral Cool (golden beige)

N = Neutral (beige)

NW = Neutral Warm (pink beige)

W = Warm (pink)

So shade 15W would be a fair pink shade.

On 6/18/2014 cassiem said:
MAC has a wide range of foundation colors, from cool to neutral to warm. The one thing to keep in mind is that MAC foundation shades are the reverse of how most of us think of warm/cool tones.

MAC shades run by number with lower numbers being the lightest and higher numbers being the darkest.

There are letters for the different tones.

C = Cool (yellow, golden, olive)

NC = Neutral Cool (golden beige)

N = Neutral (beige)

NW = Neutral Warm (pink beige)

W = Warm (pink)

So shade 15W would be a fair pink shade.

Are you certain you have this correct. Usually cool tones are the pinks and warm tones are the golden yellow, olives. So people who are very fair with pink undertones are considered to be cool tones and olive skin is always a warm tone.
