I've had hereditary hair loss since my early 30s (at least 25 years) and have tried everything suggested above! Nothing really worked for me, although Toppik & XFusion did make me feel like it was less obvious. But in January of this year I ordered the HairMax Professional lasercomb from QVC. The one I ordered was sold with minoxidil to be used in conjunction with the lasercomb. I had tried minoxidil (Rogaine brand) about 10 years ago with no results at all, but this combo is giving me results. When I had my hair cut after using the HairMax/minoxidild combo 4 months, my hairdresser asked me what I had done and was very impressed with the visible results. Of course, I'm still very far from a full, luxuriant mane, but can definitely see less scalp through my hair than I've seen in years!

I stopped HRT about five years ago and have noticed my hair thinning, but this last year I've seen a big difference. I keep my hair colored dark brown as I can disguise the hair loss easier with different products that aren't as noticeable with a dark shade. I've used powders and sprays in my shade and they work fairly well. I wondered if anyone else is having this problem and what you use to cover it up. Also is there a product that helps thinning hair? Absolutely any info would be appreciated. I am on the run today but will check in this afternoon and thanks so much!

Peaches, I know first hand how devastating hair loss can be. I love everything about my 40s except for that!

I started using Rogaine for Women in April, 2013. It's a lifetime commitment, but it works. You have to use it every day, twice a day. During the first 4 months, you will see more shedding than normal. It's scary but expected. After 6 months, you will see your new hairs growing in. In January, I got the Tea Tree Oil and use that overnight twice a week. I am noticing new growth on my scalp. These hairs are coming in with the same texture as the rest of my hair.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Instead, the instructor kept pointing me out when discussing thin hair. I wanted to slug her! Lol just when you think you've disguised your problem so well....lol

I lost hair when I was on an HRT patch. It was coming out in wads each time I washed my hair, for months and months - 6 months or longer. My hair thinned considerably.

I did a lot of research and learned hair loss was a side effect of this patch, which contained a progestin which in turn activated androgens. Sometimes when the level of androgens is higher ( "Testosterone") and the Estrogen levels have dropped, it triggers hair loss. Our endocrine systems have a lot to do with hair loss, even if we do not take replacement hormones. After menopause you can shed a lot of hair; thyroid imbalance causes shedding as well. PCOS can be a factor.

I take the Lessman Hair Skin Nail supplement. For a while I saw a lot of new hair growth, hair grows in phases though so I'm still losing hair; for some women like me it is a postmenopausal condition. My mother has a thick head of hair at 84, but I have thinning at the temples.

Here is some information about female hair loss (alopecia) which I found to be helpful:

http://www.hormonehelpny.com/column/alopecia.htm

Chynna,

I used Rogaine on my crown, hairline and the front above my hairline. Wen Tea Tree, I use all over.

As an experiment, I stopped using Rogaine in the front above my hairline, to see what the Wen results would be in my thin areas. The hair that I gained from Rogaine has fallen out. It's not noticeable (ie, transparent), but I do notice it because of how my curls lay.

That's why I said Rogaine is a lifetime commitment: if you stop using it, you will lose everything you gained.

I continue to use Rogaine on my crown and hairline. I'm not willing to lose that progress.

I would give good quality Whey protein isolate a try. I take Andrew Lessman's as a back up to my normal protein and keeping lean muscle after exercise. This protein is good for skin and hair, retaining muscle of course, too. I notice little new curly hairs all around my hairline. I also take synthroid for low thyroid, but never saw new hair growing until the protein. It's good to look at health and diet issues before going to retail products. You'll figure it out after doing some testing and your own research. Good luck!!!
