On 6/9/2014 fromallover said: I have loved the oils in the past, applying to dry hair and scalp and cleansing in the morning. But lately, my scalp was developing dry patches after oil treatments and actually was better after just cleansing without a treatment. I have loved using the oils on damp skin after the shower, so I thought maybe I would have success doing an oil treatment on damp hair/scalp. Is this crazy? Will I get the benefits of the oils this way?

fromallover, I think you would probably get benefits from applying the oils to your wet scalp but I don't think that is likely to resolve the issue. If you're getting dry patches of skin on your scalp I think that's a sign that either something is irritating your scalp or that there's another underlying medical issue.

I think the first thing that you should do is to consult with a dermatologist. You need to rule any medical condition out and your don't want to make the situation worse. even if your doctor says it's alright to continue using oils, it might be a good idea to take a break from them for a while and just see how your skin reacts.

All of these treatment oils have essential oils in them and essential oils can irritate the skin.

If and when you start using these oils again you should follow an elimination program. You use one oil blend for a while and see if you have a reaction to it. Then you move on to the next oil blend and see how that goes, etc. This should help you figure out what oils your scalp may be reacting to.

You might also want to experiment with adding more jojoba oil -- which is the promary carrier oil in Chaz's oils -- to the Treatment Oils to reduce the intensity of the Treatment Oils.

You may also want to have a look at Hilary's two informative Wen Oils thread: Benefits of Oils (especially initial post, as well as posts #3, #8, #32, #39, #59, #60, #130-132) -- I Am Even More in Love With the Wen Oils!!! -- For easy access these two thread are also listed in the Wen FAQ and the Wen 101 threads listed below

Best of luck!!

bebe - Wen FAQ - key Wen links - Wen 101 - tips from Chaz Dean Studio

Your scalp is skin with more hair. How your skin reacts to the oils will give you a good indication.

I've used the oils on wet hair before and honestly I think they work better that way for my hair. But I'm not always in the mood to apply them to wet hair and then cleanse them out again later.

I too use oil on my hair when it is wet I use four drops before I apply the mousse. This really helps my hair against humidity.
