I purchased the Tria Age-Defying Laser when it was a TSV and after a couple weeks had to send it back as it wouldn't hold a charge. I hadn't seen any results after only 2 weeks but asked for a replacement, which I just received.

For those of you who have been using the Tria Age-Defying Laser for the full 8 week treatment, would you recommend it? Why or why not?

The results really begin to appear AFTER the active period. We're injuring our skin so our collagen can ride to the rescue to repair it -- the increased collagen production is our goal.

I liken it to making Jell-O. If we prepare it and put it in the fridge to gel but keep opening the door to stir it around, it's not going to get the chance to set -- we're interrupting the process.

When we repeatedly "go after" our skin with the laser, it interrupts the collagen renewal process. We need the rest to allow it to "bloom" without further "stirring".

I believe a lot of the fast results people are seeing is micro inflammation -- the initial "ouch" from the injury. Like when we get a sunburn initially our skin can look kind of good -- before the peeling, etc. But many swear they see real results within a few weeks.

Tonight will be my last night of my 8 week treatment. My skin still is somewhat red (I don't see how it couldn't be since I'm lasering it every single night) and it looks tanned and dehydrated. But even so, SOMETHING about it is looking better -- it's difficult to describe. But again, it might just be the reaction to the nightly, ongoing assault.

I never expected to see results until the rest period, and feel bad for those who think it "doesn't work" after a few weeks and give up, when there are so many who stuck with it and DID see more of the results we're all hoping for.

I'll be posting about what my skin is doing, how it's changing, which problems the laser has addressed (if any) during the rest period.

So in answer (finally!) to your question, I don't know YET if this will have been worth it. I hope so, but as with everything, it delivers for some people, not for others. We'll see. :-)

If your new device is glitch-free, I think you don't have anything to lose by giving this a try unless you just can't tolerate the treatment or the reactions. IMO, natch.

Good luck!

I think what is really important to keep in mind is the scope of expectations, as they are probably going to widely vary hence so will the overall reviews and opinions. I have to say that it did seem from reading all the weekly posts that the majority of Tria users here all seemed to share reasonable thoughts about the process itself as well as potential results. There might be a few who really do expect professional results from a totally non-professional piece of equipment yet the majority seemed in sync with one another.

As Maren mentioned, the results will definitely vary from individual to individual particularly since they all have their own specific issues. It will be interesting to read how everyone feels about the Tria technology and I would guess some will be resuming another protocol once their break period is over.

I do think QVC made a wise decision in allowing a return period of 120 days so most can get a really good indication of how well their skin responded by that time.

I would recommend it.

I feel lucky that I received one that is doing exactly what it is designed to do. The only problem I had (charging) was rectified with the new plug. I started to see results within a few weeks; but I think the results are partly due to my products being absorbed better. I continued using all the products I was using. I guess I'm also fortunate that none of these products caused any additional irritation.

I initially took one day a week off (I couldn't do Saturdays), but now I'm taking both Saturday and Sunday off. Between taking the days off, continuing to use my regular products, and exfoliating regularly, I never went through any bad looking phase. My skin just kept looking better and better. I Don't think I would have been able to tolerate going out looking worse.

Seeing results gave me the motivation to continue - I don't ever want to be without this Tria laser. I will buy one every year if I have to.

oh, BTW - my hands are looking better too.

My skin is brighter and more even toned. I had some freckles that have lightened and lines on my forehead (from squinting in the sun) have diminished significantly (almost gone). My hands, which in the winter were looking very wrinkled with a few freckles, are looking very young now - lines and freckles significantly reduced.

My face is looking more toned but I don't know if that's from the SSC EGG and Isomers Nutritone which I'm also using.

I'm also using the cleanser and toner that came with the Tria and I think those items may be helping also, especially the toner. I think the toner (which has retinol) may be part of the reason for the fading and brighter skin. Although I don't use the serum on my hands and they are looking just as good as my face.

I like the cleanser and toner so much that I just ordered more of it.

Oh, btw, I'm in my 8th week.

I am so sorry, ladies, that I stated 120 days for return. Regret that I may have misguided anyone. Not sure why I thought that. I know I saw something recently that was a 120 days for returning but can't remember what it was. Maybe it was on HSN as I do tend to catch them a bit more.

Does anyone know why Tria switched from a 12 week protocol in Canada to an 8 week globally? Wasn't the Canadian protocol the first one recommended? It just makes me curious why they altered it. Could it have been to secure a deal with QVC, who didn't want to extend the return period out that far, so they made the switch to 8 weeks and called it the global protocol?

Hey, I may be way out in left field (o completely out of the ball park altogether ) - I have just found that perplexing from the very start and wondered if anyone knew the genuine reason.

I'm sure I glanced over it when I first received it, but since I'm convinced I'm impervious to everything, didn't really pay attention. :-)

THEN a user here said she's following the 5/2 12 week protocol and she hasn't experienced any of the uncomfortable side effects many of us have. So I'm wondering if there's a reason behind the U.S. protocol that isn't just the FDA flexing its muscles.

I don't want to stop using this so I'm going to call Tria and ask if the 5/2 might prevent this from happenig again, or if I'm just one of the lucky ones whose skin will always react that way. I understand it's not all that uncommon.

Maren, are you considering returning the Tria? Where have you seen the skin color darkening? Please let us know what you find out about this from Tria, about the 5/2. Tonight will be my last night.

I am on my sixth day of the four-week off period. My skin is just getting back to some level of normalcy. No brownish-redness, no fine peeling. I don't see any real improvement and worst of all, my "11" is complete where I only had one of those lines before, and I have three new upper lip lines that I did not have before. I think I notice a slight tightening of the skin on my neck, but it is too early to say for sure. My neck never seemed to get as red or peel as much as the rest of my face during the treatment phase.

So I still haven't decided for sure whether this is a good device or not. Right now, it seems like it is not wirth the investment.

Favorite Son, do you think you are going to return it?? My last night will be tonight, since I added another week on. I just don't know what to do because I have not seen any changes in my skin, but I haven't stopped using it yet. I will wait and see after a week of not using it to decide whether or not to keep it. We should be seeing some changes within a week or so, don't you think?

Perhaps it is too early to tell. My unit arrived on April 1, and I know that it needs to be in the mail on Saturday, June 28 if I am going to return it. The additional "11" line and new lip lines really concern me, though.
