I tried everthing from using more (since on the WEN site it says you can never use too much) to using less (thinking maybe I had too much and it just wasn't getting rinsed out) to rinsing and rinsing and rinsing. Nothing made a difference. I keep thinking I must be doing something wrong, but nothing has worked! I contacted the WEN company directly and they just said I must not be rinsing enough and to rinse for at least 2 minutes. I have rinsed longer than that and still no change. How can a product that has been raved about as much as this on QVC and the inframercial be this bad. I just don't get it!

What am I doing wrong??

Hi keenta and welcome!

Which "Wen company" did you call? Was it the number from the informercial or the Chaz Dean salon?

Since you said you are using the recommended amount, here are some key tips for what may have caused your issue...

#1 Cleanse, rinse, and repeat. Think of it as 2 steps just like shampoo and conditioner.

#2 Add a few splashes of water to your hair after you apply Wen, this helps emulsify the cleanser and you can really work it into a froth. Your hair should feel clean when it rinses out.

If you'd like to share your hair length and type, which formula, and how many pumps you used, then we may be able to help more.

Thanks for your response. I called QVC and they directed me to the actual WEN website where I emailed my questions/concerns.

Don't feel bad..Wen is not for everyone, even though Chaz wants to make you believe that..WEN is NOT FOR ME EITHER..My Husband LOVES it,BUT ME......OH NO,NO, NO! It didn't do anything my REGULAR Shampoo did and maybe EVEN WORSE....So, I kept it in my SHOWER for YEARS.I didn't want to throw out something that was EXPENSIVE..One day my Husband asked me about this bottle he had looked at for YEARS and FINALLY asked me WHAT IT WAS..I told him,he said: Maybe I'll try it....His hair is VERY SHORT and he sometimes has DANDRUFF..Well he loved it and no more DANDRUFF....But the downside....He does use "REGULAR" shampoo from time to time...Because he says his SCALP FEELS WAXY and he feels it NEEDS TO BREATHE..So, he'll CLEAN HIS SCALP and then back to WEN!

You didn't mention your hair type? The Wen that you are trying are for normal hair. Hard/soft water also makes a difference. It does sound like it is staying in your hair. When you add the splash of water and then massage/scrub are you getting Wen to foam? I usually use more than 1 splash. If you are still not having any luck, try as PP suggested, shampoo first the a Wen and ease into it.

The only tip I can think of is to tell you to focus on your scalp while cleansing. Put 4 pumps on the crown, 4 pumps on the nape, and 4-6 pumps on your length depending on the length of your hair. Do this twice. Make sure you really massage your scalp and add the extra splash of water to get it frothy and creamy. Rinse, rinse, rinse. I hope you can get it to work for you. Good luck!!

What formula you choose makes a huge difference.

For me, the seasonals work the best. Even though I have very thick, heavy curly hair, Fig was too moisturizing for me. It left my hair kind of flat and pulled out the curl. Lavender is good mixed with a seasonal. Tea Tree is great for a first cleanse. Sweet Almond Mint was just OK. Pomegranate was also good mixed with a seasonal.

It sounds very complicated and confusing, but once you find your correct formula, it's clear sailing

Here's my experience. I started using WEN in September of 2009 and I had that flat, no life hair for about 3 months. I was almost ready to give up when something amazing happened, my hair started turning out great every time I shampooed. I didn't change what I was doing, however I think that my hair and scalp finally came back to normal. After decades of stripping my scalp with shampoo, it finally quit over producing oil thanks to shampooing with WEN. I always had dry hair and an oily scalp and I shampooed sometimes 2 times a day in the summer. I still shampoo every day with very few exceptions because I usually end up sweating do to working out, working or whatever each day. My hair is full, thick bouncy and full of life now and people say I have great hair.

My tips

1 Your hair needs to be thoroughly soaking wet before applying Wen CC

2 If you hair is thick, then applying in sections works well.

3 You need to get the cleansing conditioner down to the scalp. Once you've applied it evenly, add a few splashes of water and then work it in well. Then comb ( you did detangle your hair before getting it wet, right) each section so make sure the hair is saturated. If you can't easily run a comb through, add more cleansing conditioner.

4 Massage well to loosen up the dirt and oils.

5 rinse well and repeat.

I'd also suggest watching the videos either on the chazdean. com website or on the Wen you tube channel.

It should feel rich and creamy. I comb it through. I also comb while rinsing. I really believe enough product usage is important to a good cleans and also what the other poster said, cleanse, rinse and repeat which is what I do. I have very long hair medium thickness and I need 12 pumps on 4 sides of my head plus another 12 for my length. I stick my head quickly under the water to get it really wet and start massaging in and WOW it creams up really thick then I comb and rake through and twist it in the hair with a "pushing" motion. My hair comes out squeaky clean. While I'm combing gobs are falling down because I make sure there is a lot in. I truly hope this helps because if it does work for you it's wonderful.

May I suggest a couple more things before you send it back? I really believe once you get it right you'll be in love, it's worth a shot.

First, your hairs sounds very similar to mine... thick and the same length. I don't think you're using enough from the 16oz bottle. It's recommended 24-36 split and half, so try 16 and 16 since your hair is thick. That's about what I use from that size bottle. I apply most of it to my scalp and then work it in and down my hair. Add the splashes of water after you apply and really work it into a froth.

Second, the formulas. I don't like any of those formulas for my hair except Tea Tree and since our hair is similar the others may not work best for you either. Try using just Tea Tree for both cleanses. Or use POM for the first and Tea Tree for the second. POM froths up more so you might find it helps your hair feel cleaner.

Hope that helps, and hope that works

You didn't mention how long you're actually leaving it in your hair....it needs to stay In several minutes...you don't add it in and then rinse out immediately....you have thoroughly wet hair and scalp, then massage in, add water, massage a bit more and leave on several minutes before thoroughly rinsing out. Good luck.

The reason WEN works is because it has the ability to break down oils and products in your hair so they are rinsed away. If you are one of the many people that doesn't cleanse your face with soap, you know it gets clean and your makeup is removed. Why? Because what are you are using to cleanse your face has the ability to break down oil, dirt and makeup and rinse it away. That's how WEN works with your hair. To be honest I don't even comb it through or do any of that. I wet my hair really well and then put the full amount for both cleanses on at once and foam it up with some water. I massage my scalp vigorously with my finger tips and scrub my hair, then I leave it in until I'm done showering and rinse well. Done.

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions!! I think one thing I may not have been doing is adding enough water when I was working it in and massaging my scalp. Good to know other people have experienced a bit of a learning curve and had to go through a little trial and error. Hoping for the same great results I keep hearing from other people! Thanks!!

This....

It's all about the water...use lots....get your scalp nice and wet, really soak your hair and as your adding the Wen to your hair, use more water to get it frothy...water is your friend

I initially had a similar reaction but I'd just plopped the Wen on my head and expected it to turn me into a supermodel...You have to actually use it right and give it time to do it's magic. It's been 2 years since I started and I would never go back to shampoo ever!!

I find it works best if you do it in a sink where you can get good water pressure...My shower has really lousy water pressure, so I cleanse in the downstairs bathroom sink. It really helped me to love Wen because I was able to thoroughly wet my scalp and hair--something I couldn't do so well in the shower.

Hope that helps

Despite what Chaz says, I don't believe there's any product that works for everyone. If you don't like it as a cleanser, you can use it as a conditioner, like Kcladyz suggested. If that doesn't work for you, you can return it.

I find this, however, to be a ridiculous statement: "How can a product that has been raved about as much as this on QVC and the inframercial be this bad."

Do you say that about everything you've had a bad experience with? "So many people like something, but it doesn't work for me, so the product itself must be bad." That's just silly.
