I'm sick & tired of being disappointed!

I don't know exactly how many beauty items I have purchased and then had to return because they don't perform as well as they're shown on television - but there are many!

Sometimes I just keep the product in a drawer collecting dust, or give it away because it's too much of a hassle to return it.

My latest disappointment was the Tarte TSV from early this month - the Brazilliance self-tanner with the mitt. It just doesn't work for me - it goes on streaky and it looks horrible around my ankles. It doesn't have any odor as you're applying it, but once it's dry, you get that same weird self-tanner smell on your skin. Darn it -I really, really wanted this to work!

What's your latest disappointing beauty purchase?

I dont really buy much anymore, I reached my saturation point of disappointment a few years back so now I just mainly stick with my tried and true.

Some body products I have tried, my skin is picky and most of it is poison to my skin, thats all I can think of I have purchased over the last couple yrs I have been disappointed in, I am sure they are good products for the normal person! I cant use any of those self tanner products, my skin goes itchy crazy, dang it.

Mostly it's skincare that doesn't deliver but I've recently discovered Paulaschoice.com and there are reviews for makeup and skincare with source material cited!

Just today I applied the Becca foundation sample I received. Not good! Very chalky looking and it's pretty obvious I put it on. When I do wear foundation it's been either Skinn plasma or the Signature Club but neither look like I'm wearing foundation which is great!

I also recently returned a Milani eyelid primer, after reading rave reviews, when I looked in the mirror and saw raccoon looking back! LOL

YBF tsv a while back was a disappointment...

The Isomers Tantrick works well for me. Just be sure to exfoliate; especially around knees, elbows and ankles..

Mine was the Celebration Foundation, the illuminating one. I felt like I was glowing and not in a good way. Many people seem to like it but not me. I ended up giving it to my daughters friend.

I am sorry things are not working for some. I just stick with what works for me. Dior Sculpt Foundation is great, Jane Iredale Shadows and Eyeliner is wonderful........blush dior a pretty color I can wear for years.......and then I still have two lip colors and that is it.......Mascara is 100% Pure but I am not paying $21 when I run out...it is not worth that.....they are pricing themselves out of purchasing since other companies can sell things organic much cheaper.......I don't buy their body washes since I have found some just as good or better for more than half the price.........in makeup and skin care if you are like most women I know we always want to try something different thinking we will get the fountain of youth. I wish I would have stayed with Erno Laszlo from 1980 or 1981..........I think 1981........since I have been using the samples my skin looks wonderful.......pores are smaller and I can't believe it.........but my hobby was cosmetics and skin care and anything beauty from soaps to perfume to powders..........I have to try and stick with the basics and save my money. My electric bill being only $63 this month was nice...........but I was away and it seems like it is going to be a hot summer.

Agreed. My latest trial & return was the Bobbi Brown TSV, it really didn't work for me and I was really disappointed since BB is supposed to be such a prestige brand.

I now try to stick with what I know, but I'm always tempted by new products, I love trying new things, it's so fun! Until I'm disappointed by the resluts. I need to get one of those gigs testing products for free, that'd be great!

I did also order the Josie Maran TSV (Supersize Argan Light & SPF 47 Moisturizer, and color stick), and I really like both products! I knew I liked regular Argan Oil and really love the Light version and moisturuzer! I dislike the color sticks, but I already knew that. I so wish they included anything else besides the color stick.

Back to topic, I have also tried and returned so many products. The only plus is I've saved myself money by not keeping the disappointments, but it's so fruatrating when you hope to love them, and then don't.

Argon oil is a wonder product but can be bought elsewhere for a fraction of the cost, just like any other product. I like Sephora and Ulta to try various products, read ingredients and get helpful hints.

The beauty products industry is probably the least regulated industry in this country. Hundreds probably thousands of products on the market and they are allowed to say anything and make outrageous claims for effectiveness with no government regulation or testing required to verify their statements. The terms FDA approved mean nothing. It simply means that the product won't kill you not that it will do what it promises to do. At least cosmetics and skin care are on the lower price point. What really amazes me is the gadgets that are sold for hundreds of dollars that promise to improve your skin, zap your wrinkles, remove excess hair etc., etc. TThe millions of dollars that are wasted on these products could fund a small country and yet woman continue to fall for these nonsense claims.

You're lucky that it has worked well for you. I had to return mine (I had bought two during ULTA's BOGO sale). I found it to be drying and ineffective.

I usually stick with my belief that eye creams are just moisturizers with an "eye" stuck on the packaging, but I figured that I didn't have anything to lose by trying what sounded promising at such a low price.

But I didn't see any of the supposed benefits after almost two months of use twice a day, and I definitely didn't see any moisturizing. I gave it a good run, though, and now am back to using my nighttime moisturizer as my eye cream.

You have to grow up and put the your belief in fairy tales and sales pitches away. You are looking for miracles and that makes you susceptible to sales pitches. Those products fail you because you expect the impossible.

With the internet, there are lots of ways to save yourself some money and disappointment. Many beauty review boards, youtube videos, facebook pages, google image searches for color swatches, forums like this, amazon reviews, ulta reviews, sephora reviews, even walmart!

Also, there is a learning curve with many products. Some are great the first time but others take an investment of time, patience and a good chunk of humor can often lead to success. With the Tarte or any self-tanner, you need to super moisturizer your feet and ankles at least 15 minutes before applying self tanner. If you are streaky, you might not have used enough product for it to spread evenly. Or you make have worked too slowly. Although they provide a mitt, it might be better to use your hands but remember to wash them quickly and use a scrub on the palms afterward. Some self-tanners have more slip, some have more moisture, some have no moisture.

I'm not defending Tarte, I happen to be a Tan Towel fan. I realize it's hard to "experiment" with a self-tanner since it can be obvious when it turns out to be a disaster.

I wasn't fond of the illuminating one either. I like and use many IT products, but I didn't like the all over glow.

I'm still trying to make up my mind on the Tightline Mascara. I like the lengthening aspect, but I keep poking myself in the eye with that wand and then I end up with a smear on my lid. I might as well keep using regular eyeliner and not try to get so close with the Tightline wand.

I don't know about the impossible, but yes, the OP needs to reduce her expectations.

Whenever I find something that works, I stay with it until it's discontinued.

Just think about the hassle and expense of returning everything. For people that don't return items they're dissatisfied with --- add up the cost. I shop at Walmart for everything. Always satisfied. There's also avon.com and u don't need a representative.
