Curly Girl Method Followers ... HELP!

I've been loving my curly hair this past year since doing the Curly Girl Method by Lorraine Massey. I foolishly tried a new shampoo/conditioner/gel on my hair that was natural, but not the Deva-Curl products. My hair turned to complete MUSH. It was so soft, it felt like spun silk and NOT in a good way! I know I have over-conditioned it and now what? Went back to my usual DevaCurl products this morning, but it still feels so weird and mushy. HELP!

I have done that before and know what you mean about being to soft. Actually i have foolishly done this more than once.

For me i had to wash my hair out with a clarifing shampoo or at least a reg. shampoo and start over.

I don't know about you but after a while i had to back off from the styling products(angell)

I now have really good results with AG Recoil

I love the curly hair method. I use Deva products. One time I used the no poo, then left the moisture pack on for 15, rinsed and then used the one conditioning. My hair was really flat. Arg! After all that work. The best hint I use that made a difference (besides the actual products) is the mico fabric towel. And hand squeezing the water out. Works like a charm, without the frizz!

OP, you might do the lemon rinse that is in the Curly Girls book. I think (without pulling out my copy) that you add a good bit of lemon juice to the No-Poo or whichever Co-wash you're using. That is a good clarifier.

I have curly hair too and use some Deva products. It's such a fight to get my curls to pop these days - I'm not a fan of most styling products. I think I need more Deva items!! Microfiber towels are the best. I have several turbie twist kind of towels, some are micro fiber and some are just cotton. What a difference with getting rid of the excess water!

while it doesn't solve all problems the wen has made a huge difference with my hair. I also stopped using a hairbrush completely and only now Use a comb. I'm almost 54 and for the first time in my life my hair is halfway down my back! what is the purpose of the micro fiber?

DevaCurl and the Curly Girl method totally changed my hair. Love these products and my hair is in great shape. My vet is older with long, gray, frizzy hair. I gave her some to try along with my dvd of how to use the products and she loves it!

It does sound like some protein might help...but I would only try that after the lemon clarifying option mentioned above. Or maybe an apple cider vinegar rinse? Hope your hair is back to normal in no time!

I agree about the microfiber towels - they make all the difference in the frizz factor. I love those microfiber gloves. I put the gloves on after applying my gel for scrunching out water and adding curl definition before clipping (another must, BTW!).

I'm wondering if lemon juice would affect my hair color? I do color my hair. Anyone know?
