Revlon dupes Vinylux and it's spectacular!

Revlon has released a new Gel Envy polish that works the same way as CND Vinylux - no base coat and a UV component that does not need a special light but cure quickly and more strongly as it is exposed to light. The colors are lovely and I plan to pick some up. I saw them at my grocery store last week, but passed them up until I learned more about them. Now I want to try them all!

Unfortunately, they will also be discontinuing the ColorStay Base Coat, so if you use that and love it, you might want to stock up now. I'm looking forward to trying these new colors, but I hate the idea of wearing reds, greens, or blues without a base coat.

I use Vinylux as my top coat with all my regular polishes and my base coat. I am very leary of going without a base coat. I need a good strengthener under my polish.

I ordered the Nails, Inc. Gel Effect set last week and I just got it today. I'm excited to try it. I've never tried Vinylux, but I'm now intrigued.

Thank you for the heads up about the Colorstay Basecoat. I do use this and will stock up. I have used Vinylux with much success. It has lasted 6 days on me with no chips. Will check out the Revlon brand. Someone mentioned on here several months ago about Hard As Hoofs Cream to strengthen the nails. I have been using it for about 8 weeks and my nails have never looked better. Big rave for that product!

I just learned last night that Revlon bought CND, the makers of Vinylux. That explains how they were able to bring their version to market so quickly and do it so well.

I pay $4.95 a bottle for Vinylux color and $6.95 for the top coat. This Revlon polish is more expensive.

Are you finding it locally for that price or online? I buy from beauty supply stores online and can find prices like that, but I usually have to pay for shipping and don't get to see the color in person before I buy. It wasn't worth the shipping if I just wanted a few colors, so I'd use that for larger orders (5 or more colors) and shop locally if I just wanted one or two.

Revlon Colorstay has always been $4.97 at Walmart, and sometimes I even have a $1 coupon.

I am familiar with most of the colors as my salon has always used CND products. Their website is accurate with color swatches and descriptions.

I purchase from beyondpolish.com. They send coupons for free shipping frequently. They also have per cent off coupons.

Has anyone compared how the Revlon polish stays compared to the Vinylux or is it too new? It can't be the identical formula. Maybe it's as good, maybe not. I stopped trying drug store polish years ago because it cost almost as much as OPI or CND but didn't last more than 2-3 days, even on acrylics. If someone has actually used the Revlon Gel Envy and it has stayed as long as CND, that would be good to know.

In the blog post linked in the original post, it says the person testing wear time went 8 days without a chip. As I mentioned in post 4, Revlon bought CND, the company who makes Vinylux, so they own the formula. That means it is possible that the formula is identical, but I don't know for sure.

Since Vinylux is a salon/pro product and Revlon is available at grocery, drug, and big box stores, they reach two different audiences with some overlap. That's reason enough to sell the same product under different names.

After reading the link to the blog I'm puzzled. The blogger seems shocked that this gel polish is not cured with a UV light. Old Revlon Colorstay gel polish did not use a light. The difference seems to be the new one doesn't use a base coat.

I used the older version as well as Vinylux, for me the difference was sometimes that extra base coat caused the polish to peel off (in a complete piece)

Just as a few years ago, Shellac type manicures were the in thing, now many companies are coming out with these gel polishes.

I have great luck with Vinylux but I have a color change (almost) every week. If I am using regular polish, I use Deborah Lippman Gel lab base and top coats. Again I almost always get a week out of my manicure. Occasionally the base or top coat gets on the edge of my finger next to the nail. In a few days, it loosens sometimes causing the polish to peel.

CND Vinylux is patented so it can't be duplicated under another name. That's not saying the Revlon version isn't good, just that it isn't identical.

The info on Vinylux says it cures with natural light.

My grocery store (HEB) had the Revlon Gel Envy colors on sale for $4.75 yesterday and had a store coupon hanging next to them. I got one color and the top coat for $6.75.
