Pet Peeve...Toe Nails...

First..I am not talking about the handicapped or anybody ILL..to get that out of the way.

My pet peeve in the summer is women who wear sandals and have the grubbiest feet going...!! Toes nails that are just cruddy and need a good wash and file..

To each their own for sure..if you don't want to wear polish...that is up to you..but I would be embarrassed to show my feet looking like some I have seen. With the age of wearing your PJ's as clothing - I guess this is acceptable these days.

I know this lady who wears flip flops in an Office setting...but her toes look worse then my 90-year old grandmothers did..from lack of care. This lady can afford booze by the gallon so she can afford some nail clippers and file!

One time somebody had a poem up on here about What Not to Do..about your toe nails in the summer..no chipped..no touch ups..etc. It was a cute diddy.

I was telling my sister about it..wish I could find it..I even googled lol..nothing..

I agree - I had a similar post some time ago and boy did people get mad at me.

I think I said something like if you are going to wear sandals you need a pedicure - and I didn't mean that you needed to go to a salon per se or that you are required to wear polish, just that one should have groomed feet if you are going to show them off.

Yes, if you are going to be wearing sandals where your toes showing, please at least have them trimmed and groomed.

I don't like looking at unsightly feet either (so I turn my head and move on).

However, I've learned not to judge.

These ladies may have a very good reason for not having presentable feet/nails. Or, it just might not be on their list of priorities. Bottom line, I don't care what these people do or don't do to their feet.

I have some really unpleasant looking toenails. Not that I don't try, but due to multiple injuries and a condition that make a few my toes bend downward my toenails are just not good. I know this so I am very aware to wear closed toe sandals in the spring and summer. They are a little more difficult to find (especially non-leather) but they are out there. Love the easy street sandals for this very reason. Nobody needs to see my messed up piggies!

It cracks me up when people say they never look at someone's feet. Maybe it's just me, (judging from this thread, I don't think so though) but I always notice someone's feet. Maybe it's because I am such a shoe person, not sure.

And if someone's feet are crusty and gross, it's like a train wreck. I can't look away!

You can't make your feet beautiful lit they're not, but you can at least keep them clean and reasonably well groomed.

My feet are now 80 years old, and although they used to be pretty darn good (if I do say so myself), they now look like they are every bit of 80. I don't wear sandals. I keep them clean and as neat as possible, but they aren't young anymore, and they show every bit of their age.

There's a time and place for everything, and the place for older feet is in enclosed shoes.

How do you not look at somebody's feet? What do you look at - the sky? Lol

I notice everything about somebody's outfit and appearance. I'm not being rude - it's just because I'm interesting in hair, makeup, clothes, bag, shoes, nail polish.

When I notice I just look away. I'm not going to judge anyone by their toe nails.

I used to have a horrible time keeping my feet looking sandal ready so I can sort-of relate to some of them. I'd get a professional pedicure and my feet would look dry and calloused the next day.

Neatly groomed feet with no nail polish looks fine, IMO.

Maybe some don't care but others have probably given up because they could not keep up. They would benefit if they knew about new tools like the Emjoi Micro-Pedi (a life-changing purchase!) or the more basic Ped-Egg.

My current challenge is keeping my feet looking good when I am very active and walking a lot every day. I have had to deal with blisters and the callouses pop up faster, too. Then I have the polish rubbing off because I am wearing closed-toe walking shoes most of the time. I keep telling myself I need to wait until after my walking for the day and then I end up doing other things. Like sleeping!

The worst is guys with terrible toe nails, cut them for pete's sake!

I personally cannot stand long toe nails on myself, or others really, but I keep mine trimmed and painted or I don't show them. I haven't worn flip flops yet this year because my toes aren't ready, and it hasn't really been warm enough, but I'm due to do them! I might do them tonight since it's supposed to be 80 today and tomorrow.

I think the people that have the grubby feet just tell themselves that nobody looks at them. It definitely is something that people notice.

I don't like feet lol. I have never had a manicure or pedicure done at a salon. Those are things I like to do myself. I like toenails to be kept very short. I don't think they always need to be polished and I would rather see them bare than have the dreadful French manicure look on them (I hate the look on fingers too) which makes them look too long.

O/T but speaking of feet. WHERE can I find those spongey things one puts between their toes for a pedicure (I do my own yet)? I can find the hard as concrete ones, but they hurt! Remember the soft mooshey ones? That's what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Thank you, and sorry for butting in.

And please, if you are not going to wear polish on your tootsies and your nails look dingy, yellow and yucky, and you can't get them to look clean, you can buy a powder that you put into warm water and dip your toes into, and they will bring your toenails back to the pretty white they should be!

I also know there is also a way to do it at home, probably with hydrogen peroxide and baking powder, I'm guessing?
