Algenist has a new(?) lighteweight SPF 50 fluid - 17% zinc

Not wild about one of the other sun protecting ingredients, but I'm pleased with the relatively high level of zinc.

I've been looking for a zinc product that isn't heavy or that leaves me with a sheen (and separates my makeup), so I'll give this a try and let you know.

Pricey at $28/oz, so I'm almost hoping I DON'T love it!

well, unfortunately it also has a chemical sunscreen and the bad (i.e. drying) kind of alcohol is the third ingredient so it will be a no-go for me. Thanks for the info though, I'm always interested in new sunscreens.

Ooh! I'm ok with a little Octinatate (sp?). Love the high zinc, not crazy about added fragrance. Will give this a try. Will research the alcohol when I'm off the treadmill lol.

I know! Why would they throw that stuff in there! I'm getting desperate, though. It seems I can't wear foundation or even powder without it breaking up and I know it's my sunscreens because I don't wear them if I go out in the evening (after the sun goes down!) and don't have that problem. I'm exhausted!

Check out Suntegrity -- very highly rated on EWG. I love it, but it's one of the ones that leaves a sheen and breaks up anything I put on top of it. They have tinted ones, too (to me, BARELY tinted). You can get samples for a couple of bucks. Nice company! (It's not cheap either, by the way, but it lasts a while.)

Maren, I have used Suntegrity in the past, although I've never tried their tinted one. The one I used (still have it, use it for my body now) it a little too thick for my liking for my face. I think the one I have was formerly called the Baby sunscreen which is suppose to be the most gentle but I did find it was a little irritating for my facial skin. I think my skin is sensitive to very high zinc %, which is a fairly common issue for many.

Well, didn't realize it was denatured alcohol. Why do they do that!? Still on the search for that high zinc sunscreen. Suntegrity is ok - I couldn't quite find a good color match, and it made my pores look big. I like that you can buy big sample sizes. Still on the fence with it.

Anyway, just glanced at a couple of reviews on Amazon, saw "great under makeup" so thought I'd "splurge @ $.49 a packet and get 5. With the regular shipping (just in an envelope, 1st class mail) of $.91 my total came to $3.36. I'll let you know what I think.

Don't tell anyone, but the I overlook both Octinoxate and Octosalate in the zinc-based sunscreen I slather on when I exercise walk (too white for regular use). In fact, I bet a couple of the other ingredients would have some running for the hills.

But it's cheap, broad spectrum SPF 50, and my skin does just fine with it. And it works. For someone who has an ongoing concern with sun damage and who has been diagnosed with actinic keratoses (precancerous), I'm satisfied.

Did you check out Josie's TSV (or just her SPF 47 sunscreen)? That has a lower level of zinc. If you DO want zinc, I think there are several companies that offer products with zinc in the single digit percentages. :-) I'm fully aware I'm a little (little?) over the top when it comes to zinc for a sunblock. :-)

I agree that sometimes those "other" ingredients are the lesser of two evils -- it's most important to use a block that WORKS! I had melanoma, but I'm actually more whack about my face (aging!) -- my body never is exposed to UV light (except my hands which I slather in zinc, too!). I need help.

You've probably read the reviews on the site, and most of the negative remarks are regarding the price for the amount -- not the product itself. So I'm thinking you might like it! Hope so!
