Question about nail strengtheners and hardeners ?

can someone suggest a nail hardener that actually works. My nails have gotten really thin and peeling.

I would prefer something that makes them feel harder when applied, not waiting 30 days

would love suggestions that I can get locally, not qvc

I've had good results with Nailtique and Nailtique 2. You can find them at your local drugstore - I get them at CVS.

Nailtiques gets my vote as well, but you do need to use it everyday.....and I need to take my own advice.

If I understand correctly, a nail strengthener penetrates the nail, and a strengthener sits on top of the nail and hardens the surface.

LOL that is what I have on my nails right now. It just doesnt work like it used to.

Has anyone ever used Nail Magic. I have heard soo much about it through the years but have never tried it. I believe it can be purchased at Sally's.

I think it is supposed to make nails really hard and help them grow.

My nails have been awful lately, and I know I really haven't taken care of them. I had a pedicure today, and decided on a manicure also. I told the manicurist about the problems with my nails (soft, splitting), and she used Nail Envy before she polished my nails, and afterwards also. I'll have to wait to see how this works for me. It's not cheap, but it will be worth it to me if it helps to harden my nails. (Sorry, I wrote "Nail Magic" -- the manicurist used Nail Envy on my nails.)

I have been using Suave Professionals Keratin shampoo and I think the keratin the the shampoo is strengthening my nails. They have been so much stronger lately and growing too. It's either the Suave or it is the Biolage Bamboo Strengthening shampoo which I also started using recently. I switch back between the two.

Andrew Lessman Skin Hair Nails, or Barielle Nail Strengthener Creme. I don't know of anything that has an immediate effect.

I have been using two products, Probelle Touch n' Grow and Delore Nails, both on Amazon. They have helped over nail magic and the Pink Armor and various other brands I've tried. I also picked up some Mavala Scientifique Nail Hardener (you apply it only to your nail tips and nothing else, as it will harden skin). That helped get me started and then added the other two products with Probelle as a base and the Delore as the top (it is like an oil).

Nail Magic is the bomb! I've used it for 30 years. Contrary to popular belief, you don't want "hard" nails. They break easily. You want pliable nails. I haven't seen NM in the stores lately, but I did find it on their website. Remove and reapply once a week and you will be very happy, I guarantee it.

Try Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus. My nails suffered horribly last winter, and this product, along with Healthy Hoof and Burt' s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream restored them beautifully. Ridges, peeling, and dry, cracked cuticles are all gone. I also use Seche Vite as a top coat.

I've tried many and I've had great success with Perfect formula. It hardens my nail and they grow and actually last and do not break. It's my HG, I have no reason to try anymore. Now they have different formulas too which is great when I just want the clear. Good stuff.

Ditto about Nailtiques. I use Formula 2 to strengthen and their polish. Before, I could not ever in my life have a manicure that lasted more than a day. Now, I can put on Formula 2 as a base coat, one coat of their polish, and another coat of Formula 2 and my manicure lasts 8 to 10 days. Every two or three days, I top the manicure with another Formula 2 top coat to keep my nails shinny and repair the usual wear and tear on my nails. Nailtiques has been a life saver for my nails and I can now wear nail polish like everybody else.
