O/T....got a new job today and wondering about follow-up

I have been unemployed for about 2 months and had a great interview last Tuesday. After the interview I sent a written thank you note to the interviewer. I received a call today from a different person in the company (his title is "recruiter"). He asked additional interview type questions and then offered me the job. I accepted the position and thanked him for this opportunity. The job does not start for 3 weeks. Since I will not see my supervisor (the interviewer) for 3 weeks, should I call her and thank her for the job also? It feels a little like "kissing up" to do that because I already thanked her for the interview and thanked the recruiter for the job.

I don't think you need to thank them -- just do a good job so they know they hired the right person.

You've already written a thank you. I would wait until you see your Supervisor in person and then you could thank her again by saying ""thank you again for this opportunity"".

Congratulations indeed.

First, wait for the official paperwork to arrive with the offer and you sign it.

After that, you will have opportunities to thank/interact with everyone as you get whatever documentation needed to them prior to your first day (if that's how they do it, some wait until the first day).

Congratulations ! That is record time , as a past recruiter, you did the right follow up already. They want you if HR called. Just where I have worked , HR would just confirm start date , where to report ect, and some may provide additional information re pre employment ie, drug screening , or verify any additional credentials for the position. ennu1 has given you the the perfect answer!

Yes!! A hand written brief note. Thanking her for the interview, position,naming the position you were hired for and you are looking forward to working for the blank blank company and working with her. You are looking forward to blank date when you begin.

Congratulations! Just follow your instincts. You can always tell your new supervisor on your first day how much you've looked forward to handling your new challenges in that position.

Good idea to wait until the papers are signed. I've known things to fall apart for other reasons. Too, if there's a physical exam involved, things can change. If you want to take a positive step, why not forward or send the supervisor some article based on a topic discussed during the interview, especially if it involves her/his area of responsibility---or even your future one there. This shows continuing interest and initiative and not "kissing up!" As a former career counsellor, this makes more sense than just another thank you note. Congratulations and HTH. JoAnne

CONGRATULATIONS! I like to stay in touch… since the start date is 3 weeks away, I would want to make some connection. Also, since to accepted the job in your conversation with the HR rep, you might want to thank your new boss for the opportunity, and let him/her know that you are excited about it. It would also be a good time to ask if there is anything you can do ahead of time to be more prepared for your first day, or find some other relevant question to ask. Again, it shows your interest, and establishes a connection. You could do this through email if you'd like to be less formal.

I think it would be perfectly appropriate to touch base again with the interviewer who will be your new boss -- just a brief note to say you met with the "recruiter", are pleased to have been offered the job, and look forward to starting work with the company on X date. It mentions the subsequent interview and offer that have taken place and confirms your expected starting date, and expresses your enthusiasm for the new opportunity. Very nice.

Congratulations on the new job. There's no need to call the supervisor, you already sent a thank you note after the interview. You should receive a formal offer letter shortly. You'll see your new supervisor the day you start, you can thank her for the opportunity then. But keep it brief and don't go over board. Yes she hired you but she didn't do you a favor. She hired you for your skill set and your experience. You earned that job. You "thank" her by doing a great job.
