Beauty Product Samples.....

I order a lot online and get lots of beauty product samples in the little square paper tear-off pouches (for lack of a better word).

I've noticed there is hardly enough product in each sample to even try. I've ordered Paula's Choice samples too and they are the same way and not worth the .80 per sample.

Has anyone else noticed?

I have so many of those irritating things. I always think I'm going to use them or take them along on a trip. I should just toss them all.

I pretty much do toss them all now. I used to hold on to them thinking for sure I'd try them sometime but that sometime never seem to arrive and I finally got tired of storing them. I have a rule now that if I don't use a sample within a month of receiving then it gets tossed out. I hate clutter too so that helps me purge.

I absolutely agree that the samples have become so miniscule that they often aren't enough for even one use. Wish these companies would realize that if they don't send at least enough for one good application then give us some other benefit and drop the samples.

I usually chunk them or give them to friends who might use them, especially if they won't work for my skin type, coloring, etc. I have a bin where I keep samples of items I actually use day to day, for travel, and go through that and get rid of things every once in a while.

I actually love them although there is very little product. Some give you more than others. I actually pay for some from Korean companies to test their products without buying the full product. Their samples are more generous.

My pet peeve are those samples that you get in magazines. The amount is so tiny you can barely do half your face. Its a pity, because some of those products seem pretty good. As for Sephora, etc., I now say no samples on my orders. If you can't give me enough for a couple days use to truly test the product, I'm not bothering.

Regarding Paula's Choice, though, I've never paid for a sample. I've just called and asked politely.

On my very first call when I wasn't sure which products I should buy, I ended up receiving tons of them to try out at no charge. Those samples I actually did use.

I even did this recently, called for a sample of the Vit C serum, which is a pricey, deluxe sample (obviously not in a foil packet). CS obliged with no problem whatsoever.

Unless it's something I already use, I don't bother with them. There's really not enough product in one sample to give a good representation on if it's going to work or not. You really need a few days to try something out and get an idea on how it's going to perform. Therefore, I pitch them. If it's skincare and something I already use, I'll hang onto them in case I go on an overnight trip. Anything more than one night, I just fill travel bottle with the stuff I have at home already.

Another idea is to give them to women's' shelters. Someone wiser than me may work with the shelters and know more. I have been told locally that they need everything including personal hygiene item, so a cosmetic sample could be a nice donation. Just a suggestion.

I agree, someone is a shelter would love it as a treat! Sad to me that so many just through these away

I like Paula's Choice samples and order them for travel. They're not cost effective, but they're convenient. I also enjoy trying different products. I recently tried a tinted SPF from the Resist line that was the subject of a thread (it was on sale) and I ended up buying a full size after using it once.

On the flip side, I also have a box of samples that I haven't used. I go through them every once in a while, yet I still keep a lot of them "just in case." Ugh.

I recently placed a Sephora order and got a sample of Deva Curl hair gel with my order. It was a very generous sample. An oz. of hair product and it's lasted me quite a while already. I was really surprised at that the size of that sample.

I've found the foundation samples are not enough for a full face.

sunshine Kate, I was just thinking about this the other day. Paula's choice samples use to provide me with several days worth which was perfect so I made sure I had no reaction or irritation or breakouts. But within the last year or so, I've noticed a big change- I am lucky if I get two uses worth, especially for the moisturizers and serums! I am very disappointed in this.

Regarding samples, I use some but since I already have things I like, I mostly collect them and then once or twice a year, I take them along with a bunch of standard personal items I've bought during sales and such (deodorant, tissues, cotton swabs, soaps, etc) to the women's shelter. The people at the shelter say the ladies and young girls REALLY enjoy the fun skincare, makeup and beauty samples I include.

Please consider donating them to a local women's shelter instead. They really appreciate any and all donations for skincare, makeup and personal items.

I think it's my slightly whiny, begging voice and my assurance that I am a die-hard PC fan that does it every time.

Actually, Paula has a blog post up today on Facebook that talks about how long products should be kept. She said samples should be thrown out after one day. Opening the package and exposing them to air destabilizes the ingredients. I suspect that is why she makes her samples for one-day use.
