topic Shelf life of unopened makeup? in Beauty

I was cleaning a closet and found a small storage bin of unopened makeup. I know it's at least 2 years old and maybe 3. Is it safe to use powder, eyeshadow, lipstick, or lip liner that hasn't been opened? I have some Smashbox, some Laura Geller, and some Bare Essentials.

If anything's sealed in plastic, does that make it safer?

Thanks for your help; I hate to throw this stuff away, but I don't want a reaction either.
