While I have read many comments about wen users experiencing hair loss with the product, I have never heard it discussed by Chaz or even seen many posts on this blog...has anyone experienced hair loss or heard Chaz talk about possible explanations?

I didn't experience hair loss (thank goodness), but I did not care for WEN at all. Contrary to popular belief, everyone doesn't love it.

And he really shouldn't be talking about it. Some users break out when they use some products, but I've never seen a moisturizer labeled "may cause acne in some people." Some people have allergic reactions to perfume, but you don't see any perfumes labeled with "WARNING: Exposure may cause some people to sneeze."

There are some complaints about hair loss, but it's a very small population who are saying that and and there's been no actual evidence that WEN was the cause. Some people feel it was, and maybe that's the case, but some people also believe that homeopathic medicine works and there's no scientific evidence of that, either. No one has come forward with a statement by a doctor, there's been no class action lawsuit, nothing. Further, hair loss isn't permanent and doesn't serious illness or death, as do things that require warning labels.

If you're swayed by anecdotal evidence, here's mine: I've been using WEN for 3 years and paying attention to my hair loss since I started showering on my own and had to clean off the drain to keep the shower from clogging. I've always been aware of how much I see lost in every shower and I can confidently say that I'm not losing more hair in the shower and that I'm losing less hair outside of the shower. I used to pull long strands of hair off of the back of my chair or off my coat and I have been doing a lot less of that since I started using WEN.

Ultimately, believe whatever you want because when people believe something without evidence, no science will be able to prove to them that they are wrong. (See: Homeopathy, people who still think vaccines cause autism, etc). But I think that you should try it before you decide what you want to believe.

Here's the thing...I have been using when for years......going through a long adjustment period of learning how to use it and then finding the product and combination of products that work best for me. I am a happy Wen user...however I started noticing an increase in hair loss..no harm or foul because I have thick, thick hair. The loss has abated. By coincidence I was reading Wen product reviews and noticed more than a few reporting hair loss increases after starting Wen.........just wanted more info on this topic.

Lindamar, sometimes people come to the forum to 'stir the pot'...create controversy/drama...It happens alot when Chaz is visiting, and especially from posters with low or no prior posts...

To answer your questions...I agree with Chynna...Anything could be causing hairloss--stress, hormones, birthcontrol, etc. Chaz isn't a Wizard who can see into people and figure out why their hair is acting wonky. It could be from any number of things including a sensitivity to an ingredient in Wen or anything else you put on your body.

I personally have been using Wen exclusively for 2 years now and my hair has been growing in instead of falling out. My ends don't break anymore, and overall, my hair is much much thicker and healthier than it was pre-Wen.

I was afraid of using it to start...I had read the discussions of hairloss too..But after trying it and having good results, I've found that Wen works for me when other 'hair growth' products didn't. And the results I've had over 2 years have been better and more dramatic than 5+ years of Nioxin and other salon hair-growth products.

I hope that helps

I don't think that it causes hair loss in and of itself but I've wondered if it may not clean the scalp well enough for those that are inclined to androgenetic alopecia. I suppose some could also be allergic to some of the ingredients in Wen but I would think they would notice some irritation on their scalp and skin if that was the case.

I'm really inclined to think that it's the combing of the hair while the product is in taking out all of the normal, daily loose hairs at one time. Normal hair loss can be up to 100 hairs per day, that can look like a lot of hair if the majority of it comes out at once.

I lose a lot of hair with any product I use, but the hair left on my head has never looked so good as when I use Wen! I can't help myself I just love the smell, the texture and the fact I can actually get a comb through my long, fine, tangly hair after using it.

By the way, if you are seeing a "doctor of homeopathy," you might want to check his or her education. There is no school in America offering an accredited degree program for homeopathic medicine. There are schools who will give people a master's degree in homeopathy, but they're not officially recognized or authorized by any university system in the US.

You can verify that here: http://www.aucm.org/About.asp

On 4/18/2014 ChynnaBlue said:
On 4/18/2014 12andcounting said:
ChynnaBlue - regarding your statement in Post #5 - " but some people also believe that homeopathic medicine works and there's no scientific evidence of that, either."

I can tell you from personal experience over the past 11 years that homeopathic medicine absolutely does work. I wouldn't trade homeopathy for anything in the world.

If you believe it works for you and you feel better AND it's not costing you a fortune, I think you should keep doing it. I don't believe it works, but I do believe that people benefit from them when combined with standard medicine.

I hope that you also see medical doctors who don't practice alternative medicine for annual screenings and a physical. Both of my grandparents on my father's side died of undiagnosed diseases that they could have treated if they'd known about, but they were only seeing alternative medicine "doctors" who did not have any medical degrees and did not do any screenings.

I don't just believe it works for me - I know it works for me. I am so much healthier since changing over to homeopathy. It doesn't cost me anymore than going to medical doctors would. And yes, I do get my annual physical -- my homeopath directs me to do so. It all depends on the homeopath, I guess. Mine is one that, for instance, if you need to go to the hospital for an emergency, then by all means go. If you need any kind of emergency medical treatment, he's all for it. Homeopathy can always take care of the negative effects of any treatment after the emergency has passed. Fortunately for me, I haven't had any of those issues. The reason I turned to homeopathy in the first place was that for YEARS I had problems that no medical doctor was able to diagnose, much less help me with. I felt I had nothing to lose. Turns out, I had everything to gain. I have none of the problems I was having when I was searching for answers from countless medical doctors and specialists. And the fact that I have had no over-the-counter or prescription meds in ten years is very important to me.

And by the way, you really can't treat successfully with both homeopaths and medical doctors simultaneously -- the meds from the medical doctors alone would prevent that.
