Jumping in here to agree that I am always surprised when they say she is wearing medium because her coloring seems so fair in every other way and she does look like she has a tan rather than her own natural complexion. She is a pretty girl but it would be interesting to see how she looked in a Light or Fair/Light shade with a nice shade of blush. It does bother me when vendors put make up on models that are already wearing a full face of make up. It makes me think that to get their look you actually have to do a lot to achieve it that they are not showing you. It's not as simple as just putting on a certain foundation or a particular concealer. But we all watch and shop anyway so I guess they feel it's working!!!!

I don't understand Mally's (or other makeup brand) use of model Stacy Ann.

This is not a slam on this particular model. I find her the least relatable model they could possibly use. Her hair is so yellow and her skin tone picks it up and any foundation used looks dark and artificial.

Some of it may actually be the makeup artists themselves that overdo her makeup.

I am not sure I am expressing what I actually mean! I see her, and I know that I cannot relate to anything demonstrated on her.

Hyacinth

For any of the models, I don't relate in skin tone, age, colored hair that is clearly not their natural color, or anything else! Everybody seems to have skin redness, sunken eyes or something. But I do like Staci Ann's hairstyle; looks very flattering on her! They really do throw the makeup her way, though. It is always caked on and looks too artificial!

I just prefer skin/eyes enhancing, rather than artificial. (Oh, yeah, well...the lash demos!)

Is that the girl with freckles/hyper pigmentation without makeup, who always looks pretty tan after foundation, with shorter platinum blonde hair? I think I know who you're talking about, and she is really pretty and seems really nice, but I know if they say she wears Medium, that I'm definitely not that shade. I don't think it's her fault or anyone's fault when they're over made up.

I do wish they'd have someone more with my coloring of natural (dark) blonde hair with light/medium skin with pink undertones, they never seem to have a model to help me choose my shade either. But we can't all have someone represent us unfortunately. But I would rather they show more natural looks at lease occasionally. Like show one model really made up, and another more natural so we know that we can acheive either look.

I agree and understand with what the OP is saying. I've often wondered that too. But then I think about it and maybe Mally wants us to see that she looks normal (well, more beautiful than most of the people I see, but still normal looking).

Here's what tiny, tiny bit I understand from watching useless TV. I saw a show that examined (through a series) what attracts people to each other, relate to each other, etc. There is a whole science to it.

For instance, I saw that if you want to attract (especially a male) wear the color red. Now you might say, "Gee! Annie, that's not new." But it isn't just the color red, the fact that it's bright, but so is orange (bright, that is). It all goes way back.

Anyway, my guess is that these models have been examined (facial structure, etc) and she its the mold (just like Stacy Ann is the model the Aussie uses for his shoes). Same idea, just different products.

Most of us don't realize but we are pushed, molded and cajoled into buying just about everything. From the way the products are placed in a grocery store to the models that are used on QVC.

So, that's just my take on it. Again, plus the fact that her skin originally is not in very good shape. Think about it. You don't really see her when they advertise Dr. Deneses' skin care products. I don't think. Maybe they do, but I don't think Stacy Ann is the only one sitting there putting on the product.

Don't start bashing me about not liking Stacy Ann. I don't know the girl. I'm sure she a lovely person. I am just talking about her skin. My guess also is that most of you ladies probably have skin prettier than her's or you wouldn't be so interested in skin care products.

I've seen her come on after she's gotten a terrible either skin peel or sunburn (I suspect the latter). A long time ago I heard someone say her mother was also a model. I don't know if it's something my brain totally made up but I thought someone said that. If so, that would reinforce my explanation for the science behind why some models are chosen for certain products and others for hair, etc.

They are desperately trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, and making us all accept it!

I still think BE tries to address that better than anyone else (on selling TV.)

annabellethecat, I think I watched that same PBS program! The only thing is, any male I've ever known always preferred the color, blue!

Red is an interesting color, though. They say, if you want to remember anything, to write it down in red. And now it seems improper to correct papers in red. I always use blue but for a different reason. I let the students make their own corrections. I just put a check mark on the items they need to check (for the correct answer.)

Well I happen to be watching in the early hours this morning and Mally pretended like she was dipping her fingers in some goop and proceeded to apply to Stacy's face and she already had a full face of makeup on (not to mention it was a primer so you would be putting it on before foundation) and she had nothing on her fingers, and barely touched Stacy's face and was just going through the motions like there was really something she was applying. When she was finished she was saying "OMG .... look how gorgeous she looks."

What a joke.

One of the rules I learned years ago was that you should match your complexion to look natural and then add blush or bronzer.

I hate those face charts , I don't think they are helpful at all , many of the shades look the same.

I totally agree.

I want to see the actual FOUNDATION color, not some face chart.

For example, I am very fair. If their face model is blonde, it skews my impression of the shade. My hair is dark. It looks very different on blonde vs dark hair.

I can do a better job of judging whether a foundation shade might work for me by seeing the actual shade.

I find the darkest shades confusing with face charts as well.

Show us the actual foundation!!

Hyacinth

She is a pretty girl but it would be interesting to see how she looked in a Light or Fair/Light shade with a nice shade of blush. It does bother me when vendors put make up on models that are already wearing a full face of make up. It makes me think that to get their look you actually have to do a lot to achieve it that they are not showing you. It's not as simple as just putting on a certain foundation or a particular concealer. But we all watch and shop anyway so I guess they feel it's working!!!!

Very true. I think she would be prettier in a lighter shade.

Hyacinth
