HI,

I have 613 CC and styling cream and love it, BUT.. I am concerned

about it eventually drying and making my hair brittle because

of the some of the reviews, so I rarely use it. I called the

salon and the woman I spoke to said it is moisturizing, not

drying and not to be concerned about the amino acids making my

hair brittle. Just wanted some feedback on her answer since many

of you had problems w/it and blame the amino acids.

Thanks !

I use 3-4 pumps in my second cleanse every time I cleanse (about 2 times a week sometimes 3). I also use 1 pump as a leave in and use the sc every time too and have never experienced any drying.

Hi AmabO, I have 613 in my hair regimen (never tried/ordered the 613 SC, just regular SCs) but use it once in a while only as deep conditioner. When I notice that my curls are getting a little limp, about every 2.5-3 months (I cleanse once a week), I use my usual TT as 1st cleanse, mix of TT and Fig as 2nd cleanse, then I saturate my hair with the 613 CC, put a shower cap on and sit under a hooded hair dryer for 25mns or so, then rinse thoroughly. It's an immediate effect with my curls, they get much more tighter, so the 613 really restores elasticity as it promises. BUT after that, I have to have another deep treatment to give back some moisture to my hair. 613 really acts like a protein treatment for me. My favorite deep moisture treatment is mixing Fig CC with Fractionated coconut oil...hheeaaaven for my curls. The Remoist doesn't really do anything special. I've been using Wen for almost 3 years now and after much experimenting with 613, that's the perfect "rhythm" for my hair. Some can't use it at all, some use it every cleanse, I guess you'll have to "listen" to your hair needs LOL if that makes sense HTH

I have problems if I use it too often, but I know my hair has issues with protein. Does your hair have a history of protein issues? If not, I wouldn't worry too much. I used it every day for weeks before I had a problem with it and backed off immediately because another product gave me all kinds of problems with protein. (Keep in mind, I was willfully using the other product incorrectly because I had no idea the protein would cause a problem if I used it too often.)

Use it any way you want and just be mindful of any changes. I'm very vigilant because my own history tells me I should be, but that doesn't mean you need to be. Lots of people use it every day without any issue.

There was a thread a while back that described how to determine if your hair was healthy or if it needed more amino acids/protein. You took a strand of your hair and pulled at it. How the strand reacted (elastic, no movement, snapping) determined which type of hair you have and how to best take care of it.

Does anyone have the link to this thread or remember what the hair test was?

It turned out that my hair needed regular amino acid treatment (which I had already suspected). Since the Seasonals first came out in Sept. 2011, I've been using a Seasonal or 613 for my second cleanse (I rotate 613 in for every third cleanse). I use TT for my first cleanse (and rotate CA in for every fourth cleanse).

I only use 613 products for my leave-in (CC, CS & mousse), and I believe they all have amino acids in them.

-- bebe

After 3 or 4 washes, my hair was almost brittle (sign of protein overload).

I think you have to test 613 a few times and see how your hair reacts.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people that can't use 613 at all. 613 makes my hair as dry as straw - it actually looks damaged after I use it. I have extremely thick coarse hair - fig is the best formula for me.

My husband, who has fine straight hair can use 613 daily and it causes no damage to his hair.

Bottom line: I think you have to try it for yourself and see how your hair reacts.

I cannot use it as it DOES make my hair dry and brittle. Not everyone's hair needs the extra amino acids plus it DOES contain two forms of protein (from quinoa and soy) so for those whose hair does not need the extra protein, it can definitely cause dryness and brittleness. It is NOT moisturizing at all for my hair. I know the seasonals all contain some extra amino acids and I can use the SMC so I believe the addition of some of the more moisturizing properties of the SMC helps alleviate the dryness/damage that it could otherwise cause. Mixing the SMC with the fig seems to work really well for me.

I really don't think they can make such a blanket statement, if that is truly what she stated. Chaz often states many of his CCs are universal and you can't go wrong but I just don't feel that is true as we all are dealing with different hair types, our water quality is all different and also the way we treat our hair (e.g. use heated tools or use various styling products). All those variables play a part in how our hair responds to shampoos/conditioners/cleansing conditioners so it is just a matter of trial and error to see which ones TRULY work for your particular hair and concerns.

I really didn't understand the whole protein issue which likely means I don't have a protein issue. I looked it up, it's a balance thing: protein to moisture. Hair needs protein to attract moisture, but too much of any one thing can be bad. When the protein/moisture is out of balance, hair can break. Too much protein or too much moisture will cause hair to break. So 613 can be moisturizing and have protein, but if one's hair is sensitive to protein, it can create an unbalance and there would be breakage. We have different body chemistries and our hair has different protein/moisture balances. You need to determine what your hair needs. I would also expect needs to change over time.
