A very finely milled sparkle comes off as glow & luminizing, too. Like some of BB's illuminating bronzers, which are more of a blush color. Be sure to check it out carefully in direct sunlight. If you have large pores this is a big no-no.

Do you think using makeup that has shine in it makes it look fresher or dewier? I really do not like to wear shiny makeup. They can use all the fancy words they want like "illuminizing" or 'brightening" but in the end it all comes down to them using some reflective material like mica to make it look like glitter n your skin. I esp. do not think that is a good look for a woman my age (65). it may be fine for teens and 20 somethings but , IMO, that is all. And it is not easy to find inexpensive MU these days that doesn't have this in it.

I am in my 50s and I don't like a lot of glitter in makeup. It is VERY hard sometimes to find cosmetics without glitter and sparkle.

I don't mind something really understated like BB's shimmer wash shadows, because those are a bit reflective but not glittery but her sparkle shadows, OMG they are just like smearing glitter on your eyes. I was so surprised, when I saw her bring these sparkle shadows out, because she's been known for helping women with natural makeup looks for so long and built her business that way.

I'm really surprised she would bring out such a glittery sparkly shadow like that, that is so unflattering on older eyes. Not for me at all.

I'm 58 and while very choosy about which illuminating products I use, I have found one that just gives a youthful glow above cheekbones. I absolutely ADORE it.

I agree about Bobbi Brown shadows. As we get older, at totally matte eye can look muddy and aging. I don't think you go full out.. but a touch in the center of the lid really opens the eye and makes a subtle statement.

Yes, women actually believe it does make them look younger. And, if done properly, IT ACTUALLY DOES. Have you never seen before and after pics? That's not subjective. They look younger to other people, in many situations. I understand that many don't like the BB sparkle shadows, but I love them. I'm 32, and don't want to wear all matte all the time, so I love that she's expanded her line some, as I'm a big BB fan and customer. As for the luminizer, there are several out there that aren't sparkly/glittery, and just give dimension and sheen.

Sparkle & glitter are very different than fresh and/or dewy. No one should have glitter on their face unless they are performing with Circ du Soleil or some similar group. Oh, streetwalkers (not high class ones) do seem to wear this look, too.

I don't like shine/glitter/sparkle. In some makeup lines it is very obvious.

Dewy to me means a glow to the skin, a freshness, lushness.

I picked up Sig Club A's cavier line last weekend. The cheek/eye color has that sparkle look.

I prefer matte.

I love to add sparkle (not massive glitter) in my eyeshadows - I don't do a total sparkle look, but I pick carefully - I am 49, if that matters.

I might do the crease in a shimmer color or as a highlighter for my eyeshadow. Or if I go with a matte eyeshadow, I will add a luminizer on my cheeks.

I do have a couple of metallic lipsticks, but they are not glittery. my favorite is Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick in F.T.W. It is not over the top at all.

I think that it is a comfort level for some as well. I've always loved shimmer shadows when I was in my 20's and I had friends back then who were the same age that couldn't deal with shimmers.

I don't think they make me look younger or older, nor am I trying to "look" younger. I wear makeup because I love to wear it and trying out new techniques. I am vain that way, I suppose. I also dye my hair. Do I think that I am trying fool anyone? No, because I will be the first one to tell you my age - even before you ask!!

A good "illuminating" makeup is very subtle. It reflects light to brighten the face and minimize lines and wrinkles, but certainly has no noticeable "glitter" or "sparkle". I'm a drugstore makeup girl, and I like Cover Girl's Advanced Radiance Age Defying powder in a pressed compact. Flattering, but no glitter effect.

There is a difference in sparkly makeup and makeup with illuminators. The whole purpose of this post was to bash people though just as the OP does to people who have the nerve to color their hair.
