Data Security Breach

Did anyone else receive a message on QVC.com saying due to a massive security breach with Epsilon, you are strongly urged to check your credit report? I received this on 3/13 and I printed it out.

The next sentence is exactly as printed. "To combat this security breach all 3 of your credit scores are available at no charge until 11:59pm March 13, 2014. It went on to say that although the scores were free , a credit card would be needed to validate my identity.

Wouldn't you know I was charged $29.95 immediately. I cannot get Transunion to take it off my credit card. Yesterday I checked my card account online and instead of removing the amount they added $17.95. I've told them I will not pay it. I would encourage everyone to use CreditKarma.com to check your scores. You don't even have to give a credit card and it's completely free.

Yeah, you got scammed.

If I had received that, I would've called cs to verify the letter.

SOMETHING weird is going on .......

The other day I got a confirmation email from QVC saying I would no longer receive emails confirming purchases or when things were shipped.

I NEVER made any adjustments ........ My first thought was that QVC has been HACKED ....

If I was no longer receive emails confirming purchases or when things were shipped would make it easier to fraudulently use my credit card info to make purchases, correct?

I immediately called QVC Customer Service and they said no ... we're just making updates and there must have been some mix up ..... and she re-set my account for those emails.

It's been bothering me ever since ......

Is the Transunion you mentioned your credit card company or one of the 3 credit bureau's? If not, call your cc company and explain the circumstances and see what they say. Technically, you must have provided your cc info for them to charge the first $29.95 but you did it to validate your identity, not to permit or authorize any charges. I can't see where your cc company will have any problem refunding those monies to you.

I think I have had it drilled into my head over the last few years that never, ever, ever give out your credit card info based on a request in an email. That also goes for any personal information. When a legit company needs that kind of information from you they will never ask for it in a random email. They will request that you contact them through normal channels often not even providing a link as one never knows where those links might lead.

I feel badly for you and can only imagine your frustration. I do hope you can get it all straightened out and get your funds returned to you. You always have the option of "contesting" anything on your credit report so if this sticks and you can't get them to refund your money, if you do choose not to pay for it, also file a statement that you are "contesting" it's legitimacy. All 3 credit bureaus have to make a notation on that account that it is being contested and that reflects you did not just choose to ignore it for no reason but have a valid complaint.

I think you'll be refunded by your credit company though so hopefully none of that will be necessary. Don't ever respond to emails again!!! Bet you know that for sure now, eh?

I do intend to get in touch with my cc company. I was going to wait until I got my cc statement but I'll probably go ahead and call them. TransUnion is one of the credit bureaus. The others are Equifax and Experian.

You need to call your CC company IMMEDIATELY and get a new credit card. Your credit card has been compromised. You have given your CC number to a scammer, and it can be used for other purchases. Do not wait another minute.

ITA with Wadzill call your CC company now. If you can get online & check charges to your credit card do that now. If you were scammed there will be more charges to your cc. You need to have the account closed & a new card with new number issued. Don't fall for any of these pop ups or emails you receive. You can check your credit report free once per year at http://www.annualcreditreport.com

Call your credit card company now. Don't wait for a statement, they can find the charge. Challenge the charge, then cancel the card and get a new one. Obviously someone has your info and your are in for more trouble. Transunion has nothing to do with this. QVC has nothing to do with this. No one has identity verified by asking for a credit card. You totally got scammed, sorry.

Don't wait. Call now. Sounds as if you've been scammed and they should help you set up new numbers. Also, talk to them about applying a freeze on your accounts so no one can open new cards in your name. That's the real danger!

And after you get things all straightened out, please don't wait ever for your cc statement to be posted. Check it online much more frequently so you know what's in it!

Big scam. It's worth repeating, do not give your credit card info out for a transaction that has not been initiated by you even if the email comes from the Pope!

you can get a free credit report every year. it's the law. why would you give a credit card number away for a free service. that is ALWAYS A ripoff. sometimes it is free for one month, then the charges start. anyway, file a complaint with your credit card company or call and make a stink. i have always succeeded in getting my money back.

yes. I use a debit card that looks like a credit card, and my bank will immediately credit back money if I complain, while they investigate. there is a 90 day time limit for this.

It just happened to me right this very minute. I had it happen to me before with Target so I almost believed it with QVC. However, I hesitated and went back into QVC and there is no mention of any such thing happening. So tired of these horrible scammers everywhere!
