Do you prefer a dewy face or a matte face???

I know some people like dewy but I always associate dewy with oily. I prefer a matte look to my face. Just wondering what others prefer and why.

I prefer dewy. Matte seems to show every line & wrinkle where dewy seems to diffuse them a little. Plus it gives me a younger look to my face instead of old & dry.

Problem is I haven't been able to find a good foundation, tinted moisturizer, or BB Cream that really does the job.

I would love to hear other suggestions also.

I feel the same way, when I was a teenager my skin was oily and I was constantly trying for the matte look. I still associate dewy with oily. At 58 I am like Goldilocks I don't want too dewy or too matte, I want my makeup to look "just right" Some days it works some days not!

Dewy. When I was younger and it was harder to achieve... I liked more of a matte look, but these days, I like just a tad of shine.

The older I get, the more I lean towards dewy. I'm 43, and although I have very good skin, matte isn't as flattering as it used to be :-(

I guess it's called "dewy" face because after I put on all of my makeup I spray my face with glitter power that came in what looks like an old perfume bottle (with the ball to squeeze and all).

It has 'glistening powder' in it. I've barely used it and I spray it on my face almost every day when I am leaving the house.

It is wonderful. The glistening catches the light and lights up my face. People have told me it makes me look younger. (Hummmm, I do know friends lie to you). Ha!

I'm with you, Katluvr58. I don't necessarily believe that matte has to mean dry, but my impression of dewy = greasy. Even at 56, I prefer a matte finish. Since I'm careful about taking care of my skin, it works for me.

Dewy. I think it is more youthful. Matte is not only aging for me, but drying. Especially those that include an ingredient to keep the matte look all day, it dries my skin so bad. I think anyhing that relects light illuminates the face and skin. But what do I know., It is all a matter of personal preference.

Totally agree. I feel that, with my BB or CC cream, plus a powder on top, it just looks natural and healthy. It's the perfect combo, IMO.

Matte with a little dewy. Do not like all over dewy or matte. Mix together and you have a great finish.

Dewy I consider most flattering for my skin yet satin is an acceptable second. Matte makes me look lifeless and just plain old.

I do think we often arrive at some of our preferences based on our personal issues with our own skin. Gals who fought oily skin most of their lives could perceive dewy with oily skin while dry skinned gals can't help but think matte resembles old leather hides (slight exaggeration but I'm in the skin was always dry camp.). Obviously not all connect this way but I do think for many the associations are drawn from our own personal journeys.

I do associate dewy skin with moist, plump, young skin yet I also think satin can be quite becoming if done well. When I did wear foundations, I would use both satin and dewy formulas.

I wonder if those who prefer matte think celebs like J Lo, for example, whose skin is usually dewy and glows really just looks like oily skin? I can certainly understand their own preferences based on their history with oily skin but am curious what they think when they see celebs with dewy moist glowing skin? I'd love to hear from some what there impression of that look on celebs is?

I think of Satin and Dewy as the same. I don't see dewy as shiny. But, see, what do I know?? That tells you I don't keep up with stuff much! Shiny skin, especially the forehead I associate with too much Botox. LOL!

I wouldn't want to see my reflection on someone's skin, but I like a fresh, hydrated look that reflects the tiniest hint of light.

I can't stand the wet feeling of dewy, and if you hug someone your makeup comes off on them. When I wore liquid foundation, I always set it with a translucent powder .... now I make up my own mix of mineral makeup to match my skin tone. I always add a little pearlized powder so the finished look isn't "muddy".
