I know it will grow back...cold feet for haircut

Dang WEN - my hair is really soft and pretty today (used 613 for the first time - and why did I wait so long). But I am resolved to cut off 10" for locks of love. It's really longer than I like (it's taking longer and longer to dry and style) and I decided a while ago to let it grow long enough for a big cut. Again, thanks to WEN, I have not had a hair cut (not even a trim) since April 2013.

I will be going from bra-strap to probably somewhere around chin length. On the one hand I am eager to have a more manageable length, on the other, I know (at least in the short run) I will miss being able to pull it back when I am working out, put it up in a fancy twist, etc.

Given my age (50), this is probably the last time I will have virgin hair and be able to do this.

I know, in the big picture of things, this is a non-problem and I don't even know why I am posting, except the people on this board tend to be generous and supportive so I figured why not.

Bless you - someone will be the beneficiary of your donation. I totally understand your reservations though. I'm 56 and have color treated hair, but since WEN have been able to grow it out longer than I have in years. I remember my mom always saying that once women had children they should have short hair. In all my married life I've never had "short short" hair. The shortest was probably collar length and kind of flipped out. Now that I've been able to grow it, I'm reluctant to cut it, even though I know I'll eventually have to. You're doing a good thing! And you're right, it will grow back and probably even faster than before since you're using WEN.

What a great thing to do! You have all the time in the world. No big rush.

Sometimes it's nice just to have a change--even if it turns out that you don't like the shorter look quite as much. In a few weeks, you might find a mid length that you like even better.

It's a wonderful thing you are doing! Shoot, I'm a little nervous before any haircut, even though I trust my stylist completely (she's been doing my hair for more than 15 years). Big changes in our looks are always scary, but I would bet you'll like it when it's done. Give your new style a week or so to "settle" before you decide to do anything else.

Locks of Love is a wonderful program -- and this First Day of Spring is a wonderful time to go with a short, sassy cut and help cancer patients at the same time. I don't know anyone who has participated in LoL who hasn't been very glad they did. Blessings to you for sharing your hair, and I'm betting you will love and enjoy your new hairstyle.

IMO, ladies over 30 should start thinking of a new style other than long hair that they've been cultivating since adolescense. Most women I see in their 50s and 60s really don't have that luster in their long hair that they had in their younger day. No amount of WEN or anything else will help. It's all part of the aging process. So, cut your hair and be happy.

IMO, too ... I don't care for longer hair on "older" (I'm one myself) women .... Just think, your cut hair is going to make someone very happy .... Remember, it's hair, fortunately for you, it can and will grow back .....

Michele, lol, just the fact that we all use Wen suggests that we care about our hair and really want to look our best. So this kind of a hair cut is a big deal and you shouldn't feel like you need to minimize the importance of your feelings about it.

That said, I think you are very generous to donate your hair. It's going to make a huge difference for someone who's really in need. Good going!!!

Had long hair really long when young when in my 30s went to cuts to bra line,40 went to shoulder,50 went to above shoulder 60 it is short pixie.Love the short easy to work with.

I can tell you I went from hair down to my tush to a very short cut and though I have considered many times, letting it grow out, I always go right back to very short.

Easy to wash and dry. I can be dry, styled, and out the door in no time. I also color it and that is much easier.

I personally don't care for super long hair on older women, but I also believe each of us should do what pleases us with our hair.

You are a luv -doing what you are.

All women look much more stylish and just plain better with shorter hair. Long hair is just a plain old drag. Check out Cheryl Burke's new style on DWTStars! Great cut! But stay away from Kirsten Lindquist's hideous half grown out hair-don't. Nasty....

I love long hair on women of any age. There's nothing like long, healthy, beautiful shiny hair. I don't care how old you are, if you want to have long hair you should have long hair. I look better with longer than I do shorter. It's about face shape, not age.

I had it cut Thursday afternoon, and was off the rest of the day and Friday, so I had the weekend to get used to it.

Even after cutting 10+ inches, it's chin length, so I can pull it back to wash my face, exercise, etc.

And, thanks to WEN, it will grow faster and I won't need as many trims to get it to a slightly longer (IMO more versatile) length.

Michele, congrats!! I'm glad your haircut was a success. Summer's around the corner, so it's a great time to have shorter hair.

I just got a Jennifer Lawrence grown out pixie...and I'm in my late 50s.

I had a bob before.

If it's good enough for 23 year old Jennifer, it works for me too.

It's so easy to care for...and I have been getting nothing but compliments. Everyone says it's youthful to have shorter hair now.

Go for it...it WILL grow back! Spring is a good time to cut...since hair grows fastest in warmer weather.
