O/T... fyi-UPS & FED EX Shipping Costs Increasing Again

UPS's rate increase, effective March 31, applies to noncontractual less-than-truckload shipments, which carries goods for multiple customers on the same vehicle. (Meaning individual customers shipping packages? and small business that do not have a contract?}

Didn't they just raise their rates around Christmas last year?

Post office already raised it's prices- here was the reasoning...

"The cost of first-class postage stamps is going up by 3 cents — but only until the Postal Service makes up losses that it has estimated it accumulated during the recession. (!)

The Postal Regulatory Commission announced the increase , but it stressed that it would “last just long enough to recover the loss.” The commission determined that loss to be $2.8 billion, caused by a substantial drop in mail volume.

Sure, sure...lol.

Now, who believes that!

It's already high enough. That means Q & everyone else will raise their shipping charges. Can't believe a postage stamp is .49¢. Soon I will quit mailing Christmas Cards. I read some place the reason the post office raised their prices is to help with their pension & insurance on retired workers. Glad I can still find free shipping deals online but I would imagine the prices of the products they sell includes some shipping charges.

I have really cut back on buying online unless it is free shipping. This is just ridiculous! This won't be good for the economy.

It's all relative - I remember back in the '70's we went vegetarian when hamburger went to a ridiculous price of $.50/lb - now it's $6.00/lb, gas is $3.50/gal, etc. Prices are going up across the board. What you buy whether on line or in a store is more expensive.

True, however it is getting ridiculous! Both Fed Ex & UPS just raised their prices around the holidays last yr. Now it's another almost 5%. If their bottom line suffers, the consumer pays more to make up for their profit losses.

You do realize that if free shipping is given-the price of the goods are raised to compensate.

And prices have been steadily climbing. It's not in sync with job growth & wages.

Also, in the 70's prices were way cheap- and the dollar wasn't purposely being devalued daily, like it is now. You just can't compare the 70's to today. A quart of berries cost .25-.50 cents back then- to 5 bucks a pint now....or by the pound! Inflation is always a contrived, manipulated maneuver, never by accident.

Anyone else notice that the P.O. priority flat rate boxes did the pizza box thing?

What used to be the small box has magically become the medium box. And the medium boxes are now labelled as large. Of course the small box is now quite smaller than before! Can ship up to 70 lbs for one price. Yeah, only you couldn't get 70 lbs of anything into any priority box- except maybe a lead weight. lol.

Just because the calendar date turned over to another yr means zip to me!

I'll wager before the year is over they'll be raised again.

I work for UPS and just want to clarify that this rate increase is for UPS Freight and not regular UPS. Less than truck load refers to smaller multiple package palletized shipments. This would not include single packages delivered to residences.

They raised the parcel rates in January, now it's stamps. All three raise their rates EVERY YEAR. Hello……..

If the politicians and special interest groups who are determined to eliminate or privatize the USPS ever get their way just watch the prices at UPS and FEDEX skyrocket. A 49 cent stamp will look pretty good then...

These rates make me think long and hard before I order anything via the Internet. Luckily lots of places offer reduced or free shipping every so often.

Welcome to the real world!!! I am not the bit surprised as gas is going up again which I'm sure is the biggest reason for everything costing more! I don't order anything from any shopping channels as those shipping charges are stupid ridiculous. I find the same things online for free shipping and no tax, altho I'm sure the no tax is on its way out. Sounds like we should start shopping locally, support our cities businesses more.

Don't you know what LTL means? UPS/Fedex is raising shipping rates for things shipped by their semi-trucks. It's not individual UPS shipments. But of course, the companies using LTL will pass the cost along.

Agree. And if we think prices are high now, if they privatize...we're doomed.

They are not raising the price of stamps again!!! They already just did that.

Never disputed that ups & fed ex rates increase yearly. They raise them once a year usually around the holidays just in time to cash in on all the shipping at that time.

This is just 3 months later, and they are raising them again.

I do not believe that this is their usual annual (as you stated) price increase. They are both laying off workers and have a shortfall in profits.
