It seems those Hourglass finishing powders are all the rage. I have to admit I am curious. I do have Laura's body frosting in Sugar Glow (golden) and I know she used to have one in Angel Glow (pink) also colors offered in the Hourglass line. She also has the Champagne Spackle which she says mimics candlelight. Unfortunately I can't wear her Spackle. It gives me cystic acne. I have Portifino highlighter (champagne color) but I think that has way too much sheen so I don't think I could use it as an all over face powder. Just curious if anyone has used those powders and or or Laura's products. I am hoping she comes out with her own ambient lighting powders since these products I mention no longer seem to be available.

I wonder if that was on sale. Do you know if it is the same as Hourglass Ambient Mood light? It actually would be the same price as the Hourglass. There may be a ton more product though.

I have a couple of Hourglass ambient lighting powders as well as Laura Geller's sugar glow. To me the Hourglass products are much more sheer and wearable for over entire face as a finishing powder with just a light kiss of color. The LG powder is much more dense and pigmented and I can only use it with a very light touch to specific areas - not all over as it has A LOT of sheen/shimmer. I will say that I prefer the sugar glow as a body product - looks gorgeous on the shoulders and legs. Both are nice, just depends if you want an all over product or more if an intense highlighter. The Hourglass powders can be applied multiple times throughout the day without buildup. I also have and LOVE the new Hourglass blush which is a combo of blush and ambient lighting powder - beautiful. Hope this helps you decide !

I'm fair too with pink undertones. I was trying to choose between the Ethereal and the yellow one, Diffused. I was thinking it might cut the pink a bit.

I pulled up all the reviews from fair people. Many people left reviews both good and bad, saying what they loved or hated and then did not mention what the color was! And then some people said they got the Ambient.

I actually live a few minutes from Sephora so I am going to check them out. I'd like to see what the SA's would pick for me although I think I have an idea of what I would like. There is a guy one youtube who did a video on them (Dustin Hunter) and he has the exact same coloring and he had them all so that was helpful.

I have LG portifino highlighter and I use that often in the warm weather but during the winter it was too much. I recently purchased the Hourglass Ethereal face powder, and it is much more delicate, if that makes sense. in the right light it's there? it makes you look healthy but not shiny. I am very fair with pink undertones? highly recommend the HG. I also have sensitive skin and have had no issues with it.

I have researched these powders and watched youtube videos for hours. I have an idea what might work but I wanted to know what the SA thought. She swatched some on my hands and thought I should try Laura Mercerier. She gets SA #2 who insists I need coverage and a mattifier. She then covers my face in this cold white flat powder. I have red hair and very warm. I looked horrible. Both of the SA's insisted Hourglass is a highlighter and not a finishing powder but from the swatches on my hand I could tell that is not true. They said they have never heard of it being used all over the face.

I find SA #3 and plead for help. She sees I look terrible. SA #3 was the most helpful although she led me away from the Hourglass where I was standing and took me over to Dior and fixed what the other SA did. It's stunning. She used some kind of pink pallete on me. I swatched it and it did not have one sparkle but was a glowy pink. I already have a pink face powder from Philosophy but it has tiny sparkles and also Laura Geller's Ethereal Glow (also pink.) At this point I could not tell how good it looked. I might have bought it. I don't have any Dior. I am going to have to see how much this powder was. She also insisted Hourglass is a highlighter.

Anyway, turns out from what I could tell on my hand I think Dim was the perfect color for me. I thought it would be too dark from what I read. I always order light in whatever foundation I use. Not fair but not med. But I can see what you mean about the powder blurring the skin. I swear these SA's were he11 bent on steering me away from Hourglass. . I had too much product on my face after this but I am going to go back and insist they put some Dim on my face.

I thought I read Sephora SA's get training on the Hourglass. They seemed to know nothing about it.

I will let you know. I have Portifino too. Since it sounds like ethereal is not a highlighter would you use that and then Portifino in your highlight areas? Or would that be overkill?
You could absolutely use both since they are very different - Portifino has a very satiny shimmer beautiful for top of cheek bones, browbone or collarbone whereas Ethereal is an all over finishing powder without any shimmer. Hope this helps.

Thanks!!

Well I am back from Sephora empty handed and deflated.

I ask SA #1 for a color match on the Hourglass powders.

I am appalled at your experience ! I think the lesson here is that you need to go with your gut and heart ! Don't put so much weight in what the SA's try to push on you. I say buy whatever you want, play with it for a couple of weeks and if it is not exactly what you want - return it. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders are most definitely an overall finishing powder. I do own the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight -01. It is very much like Portifino. Keep me updated on your quest !

Thanks ladies. I know from all the research I've done they are finishing powders. I do understand they do not control oil or give coverage. I did not ask for coverage or a mattifier. I was just amazed I was almost arguing with them about Hourglass and what it is and does. I wonder if they get a lot of them back. All 3 recommended against it and one said it would not make a difference at all, that I wouldn't see what it does. Macallanmom you are right, I should just buy one. If it's not right I can just exchange. Thanks again. I will let you know.

Update: I am now the proud owner of Mood!

I went back to Sephora and had a totally different experience. I tried several shades and then realized they were out of just about every powder. I got the last Mood. It actually looks really nice and I am not surprised since I loved the Dior Rose Diamond, another rosey powder.

I get what these are and what they do. If primer was powder this is what it would do. It gives the effect my primer gives me but I can't go out only wearing primer. . I am thinking maybe Mally duped Dim when she made her powder primer that goes over foundation.

Oh my gosh!!!! I love this powder SO much!!!!! I didn't plan on getting mood. It just kind of worked out that way. I'd really like to get Diffused while the sale is still on. My store only has the two darkest shades in stock. Darn it.

I agree as well. The Hourglass are quite sheer. I only have lG vanilla and it is quite a thick powder compared to HG. Many of the HG have sheen and some just have. A more subtle glow rather than high sheen. Some even lean more towards matte. Ave
On 3/19/2014 Macallanmom said: I have a couple of Hourglass ambient lighting powders as well as Laura Geller's sugar glow.
