I'm having surgery next week and will be in the hospital one night. Since it's robot assisted, I won't have any big slices anywhere so the surgeon said I'm free to shower in the morning. I'm doubtful that I'll care much about doing any skincare at night following my operation, but do you think it's OK if I don't really do much in the morning other than cleansing and maybe some moisturizer? I don't really think one night and one morning off my routine will really harm anything, do you?

If the doc. does rounds early you may be home before you get a chance to wash or even brush your teeth. You will probably go home and sleep. When you wake up, you can do a little primping if you are up to it. So, no, nothing awful will happen if you skip a couple of cleaning and moisturizings IMO.

You'll be fine! I've spent an entire day in bed, having not done anything since the night before and not doing anything else again until the next day. No problem. I think when we consistently are conscientious about our skin care, the effects are cumulative and skipping a day isn't going to send us back to Day One.

Hope it all goes well for you!

You will be fine. I ended up in the hospital for a three day stay that was unexpected. On the first night I had to call my sister and ask her to bring me cleanser, a moisturizer, and a headband to hold my hair back so I could wash my face. She was bringing me what she had in her house. It was just easier than having to give my DH directions, like 5 times, and still have him bring the wrong stuff. I really really really wanted to add a specific night cream and an eye cream but thought I was pushing it. I survived!!! Lol.

jean louise

Good Luck on your surgery.! I don't know what you are having done, but usually you don't feel that well to do skin care. Right after surgery usually you drift on and off into sleep, and are pretty tired for the rest of day. Then they come in and give you pain meds and sleeping pills. LOL! To top it off, they boot you out before 11:30am or one minute to 12N. They don't want you staying another day. Or rather, insurance doesn't!

One suggestion. Surgery is pretty drying to the skin, especially the mouth (vent tube, etc). Bring your face wash, a moisturizer, and a lip balm for sure.

My husband just stayed in the hospital one night. His surgery was at 10:30am, and lasted an hour. Then he was in recovery, and in his room by 12:45. He was groggy, and tired. He was thirsty, had liquid diet until about 6pm, then they gave him a light meal and he slept. They woke him up for sleeping pill, removed catheter early morning, and he was ready to go by 10am.

Good Luck JLF! Don't worry. It will probably be a day or two before you are awake enough to worry about it. Maybe pick up a trial size or Simple face wipes from CVS for a refresher when you want. With your moisturizer you'll be fine. Shoe kitty was right- take your lip balm!
