I've only had time to try the fig a couple times but what I am wondering is if it's for ethnic hair which I am not will it end up being to heavy or is fig the universal best for dry curly hair ?

I am Irish/Italian & have very curly hair that is dry. I have used Fig for years and added 613 to the mix when it came out 3 years ago. Fig is perfect for curly hair and this kit with the 613 is a bonus for the price. What a deal!!

With the new curly hair movements I am finding there is more to using products based on hair type than skin tone. I am African American (what the world considers me) but my genetic makeup is that, Native American, Irish and French. My hair as a result is a curly type 3b/c and Fig is my go to for moisturizing my curly hair. Tea Tree works best on my dry scalp and POM (when I want more bounce from straightened hair) and 613 (deep treating) are added based on the results I want. Seasonals are added for fun and scent usually at the end of my washing and as leave in.

I only use the CC and styling creme. I used to use a litte CC as a leave-in, but discovered that my hair actually feels better without it. I ordered the TSV because I do want to try the Replenishing Treatment Mist as well as 613. Don't feel any need for any other products, but it depends on you and your hair.

I do think Styling Creme is a must if you heat style, as it protects your hair from the heat.

I think it depends--do you prefer either Fig or SAM? How do they perform in your hair?

My hair is only wavy but I love Fig for the moisture. However, I also love both Tea Tree and 613--TT for the scalp benefits and 613 because it is so moisturizing for me. So, if you like Fig, the TSV is a good buy. If you want to try Tea Tree, that's a good choice, too. (One warning, though; the more popular formulas seem to sell out in the TSVs early, so don't wait until the last minute to get your order in!)

And I used just the CCs for quite a long time (I also found the product selection kind of overwhelming). A friend sent me a bottle of the styling creme so I have been using that (with good results) for the last two months or so. I don't use any of the other products. I'm interested in the oils but waiting for a deal; I'm also interested in the glossing serum but I don't think that's really a necessary thing. I think you're fine if you just focus on finding the right CC for now.

If you are getting good results with Fig, I would stay with it.

I know you can try anything and return it, but rather than getting this huge bottle of something you are not sure of, I would stay with what you know.

For what it's worth, I know there are a few of us straight fine hair ladies who love the extra moisture fig provides during the dry winter months, so I think if your hair needs moisture it doesn't matter if it's coarse, curly, fine or straight.

Michele

PS shining star - the TSV is Saturday

I tried the styling cream years ago and didn't care for it, purchased recently (upcoming TSV) and I like it maybe because it is 613. I love the oils, and I plan to buy my first ReMoist whenever they come with the 8oz size. I know I could use a ton of the 4oz in a couple of uses in my hair.

On 3/12/2014 mom4321 said: Thank you. I'm finding all the options overwhelming . I guess there is a learning curve

First, I recommend Fig for dry, frizzy, curly hair. Of all the core formulas I've tried, that's the one that works best. If I use another, like Tea Tree, I have to mix it with Fig or my hair isn't happy. My usual combo is Tea Tree and Fig. Fig, Seasonals, and the 613 are the only ones I can use alone and have my hair come out happy. I don't use 613 very often because my hair doesn't like too much protein.

Second, if the options are overwhelming, stick with the cleansing conditioner for a while. You really do not NEED the other things. If you're already using styling products now, you can stick with those. If you heat style, you should make sure you use a styling product with a silicone to prevent heat damage.

All the other things are nice to have, but not necessary. For my hair, none of the WEN styling products work to maintain my waves and not let them turn frizzy. I use curly-hair specific products for styling. I liked the mousse better than the others, but eventually I stopped buying any of them and use Curl Keeper, by Curly Hair Solutions to define my waves and keep frizz away.

The oils are good because you can use them on your hair and your skin. Tea Tree and Sweet Almond Mint are my favorite. You don't need them, but they're a good boost when you're ready. The Remoist I love because curly hair loves moisture and Remoist is a great deep treatment that always leaves my hair feeling soft. Again, it's a good boost when you're ready, but not necessary.

I love the Replenishing Treatment Mists more for my face and skin than for my hair. I do use a refresher spray on my hair for second day curls, but I use water and Ouidad spray for that. It's more cost effective and it works really well on my curls. The WEN mists I love to keep in my fridge or in my purse. I live in a place where it gets hot and humid and coming home from a hot day and spraying myself with a cold blast of Sweet Almond Mint mist really feels refreshing and the mint perks me up. Again, nice, but not necessary.

If I had to rank them for me, I'd go with Cleansing Conditioner, Oils, Remoist, Replenishing Treatment Mist. In the summer, I think the mist is, for me, higher up and I'd buy that before Remoist in the summer.

Be dry and get frizzy Any advice from more experienced wen users

mom4321, from what I've read on this forum over the past few years, I think you probably made the best choices by selecting FIG and SAM. They seem to provide the most moisture to hair. -- I have thin/fine/limp hair and TT, CA & 613 work best for my hair.

For this TSV, you might want to try the TT CC. TT CC seems to be a core staple for probably about 80% of the Wenners in this forum. They'll use various other Wen CCs but also add TT to their routine. Lately, Chaz has also been referring to the TT CC as another universal CC formula.

The TT CC is special because the tea tree oil in it has medicinal qualities which help keep the scalp happy and healthy:

* as an anti-fungal, it helps combat dandruff and keep the scalp healthy

* as an anti-bacterial, it helps create a healthy balance for the scalp

* it's emulsifying properties help to gently liquify dried scalp sebum (you body's natural oil) and remove excess dirt from the scalp.

* it helps to balance sebum production and, over time, normalize an oily scalp.

FYI, below is a hot link to past Wen TSVs which will give you an idea of the types of Wen special offers available during the year:

Wen TSVs going back to December 2010 -- items in TSV kits and prices

ChynnaBlue ranked her favorite Wen products, so I'm going to follow her lead:

* Cleansing Conditioner

* TT oil -- for overnight scalp treatments (though I make my own jojoba/tea tree blend)

* remoist -- for overnight hair treatments (though I alternate it with 100% Ojon oil)

* 613 mousse -- because of its smart-hold technology which is the only thing that has ever worked on "second day hair" for me (because it has that extra shine ingredient)

* 613 styling creme -- keeps moisture in and tames my frizzies a bit (because it has the extra shine ingredient)

Best of luck!!!

-- bebe

Wen has a huge learning curve! There are some 6 ounce pump bottles of CCs in a kit; I think it's called a Discovery Kit. You might want to give those a try.

I've been Wenning for 6 months. I tried every core formula except for CA and Kids. I found a good regimen with TT, 613 and Fig maybe a month or two ago. I always use Fig as a second cleanse and leave-in; no stylers.

For thinning hair try the Tea Tree CC. If you can, use the Wen Tea Tree Oil as well.
