Joan Rivers and her plastic surgery

Watching Joan talk, it becomes very clear that her face doesn't move. Don't these celebrities understand how distorted their faces look? She must have had several surgeries.

She makes no secret of it and makes self-deprecating jokes. I don't understand the people who have had this much work done, and pretend they haven't!

She openly admits her plastic surgery and talks about it frequently. I think she looks pretty good for 80.

you would look good at 80 also, if you had done what she has. Of course she looks good at 80 over the top plastic surgery. Eva Marie Saint looks better at 89 with no plastic surgery

It doesn't matter what we think, what matters is that they're happy -- either surgically enhanced or not.

I kind of agree. Surgery is her choice. But one thing I did notice tonight was her awful manicure job. I was quite surprised when the camera came in on a close up. It's so unlike her to have anything but a meticulous manicure. It was really ugly to see.

Absolutely. She looks just fine and dresses better than anyone on QVC. She takes excellent care of herself and deserves, at 80 to be admired, not put down. And this woman never stops working.

Love Joan. I think she looks terrific. Agree that it's personal preference if people want to have plastic surgery. If I had the $$ & the courage & a guarantee (not possible) that a facelift or mini lift would 'refresh' my sagging face & chins, I might even go for it :-) To me, Joan is the epitome of style (classic), smarts, & the bee & owl combined-- impossible to fly but she does & the protector for her family & friends.

I admire Joan. God love her, she keeps re-inventing herself. She's had many tragedies in her life that might have stopped some of us from even getting out of bed in the mornings. But Joan keeps going and going, like the Energizer Bunny. I wish I had her energy and creativity!

She's in showbiz. She has to compete with a lot of younger women-so she has to try and look her best. Normal, everyday best is different from showbiz best. Surgical enhancements are expected!

Not about Joan specifically, just a general comment about plastic surgery--what I've noticed on relatives, movie stars, etc. is that good surgery makes someone look younger and refreshed the first time only--if they have more procedures, they end up looking plastic and wierdly stretched no matter how good the surgery is.

My advice would be (not that anyone has to listen to me), if you want plastic surgery but still want to look natural and fresh, put it off as long as possible, do it once at about age 60, and age naturally after that.

Personally, I'd be too scared to do it at all. Look at all the bad plastic surgery on public figures who can afford the best--if they can't get it right on them, I wouldn't trust it!

Love Joan and I think she looks beautiful. What I would like to know is how she gets her hands to look so youthful. Do people use fillers, etc. on hands, anyone know?

I don't understand it either. I watched the Academy Awards last weekend and it was sad. Faces without definition, frozen or paralyzed facial muscles, lips too large and skin stretched so tight they couldn't blink. Some were almost unrecognizable. I guess I am missing something. JMO.
