Suzy, Bella, Harpa, cassiem, anyone? No opinions about the ingredients?? Not even about the (potentially) nasty ol' Diazolidinyl Urea or Iodopropynyl Butylcarbonate??
Hey there! I've had a busy night. Dinner, etc... Then for some reason I decided i had to clean out a m/u drawer. That will escalate some more tomorrow. Anyway, I've not heard of this one. You could email and inquire about those last three. Maybe the % is so low it would be close to negligible. Everything looks great until you hit those last few. I really like the tea extract and licorice. Were you looking for something to calm your skin? Are you having irritation?

I like the white tea and licorice root as well.

I am not having any irritation currently but I do get wind, cold and sun chapped at times so it would be nice to have something calming. I go to the coast alot during the summer and the wind at the beach with the sand can make me a bit chapped so it wold be nice to have something to spritz on occasionally to soothe and protect. Any ideas?

I looked through some of their other products. They are fond of those three ingredients and many essential oils. What the heck is Brazilian peppertree extract and what does it do? I'll have to look that up, too. It's the sixth ingredient in their Power Peptide serum.

I haven't tried (or heard of) this, but your post reminded me to order Skinn Enriched Skin Softening Essence. Item # 306-075 if you want to check it out. As always with Skinn, pages of ingredients but most are reassuring. Like those in the Bioelements Calmitude, there are a few at the end of the deck that are questionable. I'm choosing to ignore those. :-)

I'm thinking (hoping) this is the Skinn product that he was saying they are using a technique to essentially "break down" water so these ingredients can be better absorbed -- or something along those lines. I didn't pay attention to the presentation because I thought it sounded kind of stupid, but then I started seeing rave reviews.

Then today, The Elysse lady say (who coincidentially was talking about the same process) that those anhydrous creams were a good barrier, but they weren't putting moisture IN the skin, so they were essentially blocking nothing. :-) Dimitri loves telling how his creams don't use water, and I remember years ago he was the first one I knew of touting an anhydrous product. Today for some reason my skin seems pretty dry, so I'm hoping this might do it.

In the reviews, people mentioned that it was calming. I'll let you know.

So sorry that I called it a night before your plaintive cry for help.

A couple things I found that may or may not be of significance to you: I ran the ingredients through that comedogenic checker, and Oleth-10 was the only ingredient rated as being comedogenic (not mildly and not highly). But PB's ingredient dictionary lists it as "good."

I don't see a problem with iodopropynl butylcarbamate -- from PB's cosmetic ingredient dictionary:

A synthetic preservative that is typically used in concentrations of 0.1% or less. It is very active against fungi but has weak antibacterial activity, which is why it should always be used with other preservatives in water-based products (Source: Preservatives for Cosmetics, 2nd Edition, Steinberg, David C., Allured Publishing, 2006, pages 51–52). See preservatives

And there is another preservative in there, so that wouldn't be a problem.

As for diazolidnyl urea, well, there is talk of it releasing formaldeyde. This is what Paula, who rates this ingredient as "average," says about that:

A water-soluble preservative that is very effective against a broad range of bacteria. Also has some anti-fungal ability. This preservative is considered safe for use in amounts up to 0.5%, though it is usually used below that amount due to it being part of a blend with other preservatives (such as the parabens). Diazolidinyl urea can be a formaldehyde-releasing preservative (Source: Contact Dermatitis, December 2000, pages 339–343). Although that sound scary, the amount of formaldehyde released is well below the recommended limits of exposure. Moreover, other ingredients (such as proteins) in a product cause the free formaldyde to evaporate and become inactive before it coud possibly harm skin. See formaldehyde-releasing preservative

Formaldehyde is found in all living things, it's in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. Fruits and vegetables can naturally contain high levels of formladehyde, but I don't see anyone telling us to stop eating them. I'm not concerned about the tiny amount that might be present in a cosmetic product.

As for Iodopropynyl Butylcarbonate, the only information I could find on it said that there were concerns if it was inhaled.

bahaha, you ladies are silly!!

Yeah, I had read Paula's info on both ingredients and also the EWG's information on it. I am not too concerned about either actually because it isn't something I would be using regularly and I am sure they are at a low enough % to not be an issue. I am going to give it a try as my mom ordered it for me from either Hautelook or BTR (can't remember which) for half the price of what it usually goes for so not a big investment.. I've read reviews that it can sting your eyes if you get some in your eyes when spraying but I rarely just spray something directly on my face- usually I spray some into my hands and pat it on.

I appreciate all of your input!!
