I plan on checking out local reviews. I found a great Endocrinologist by just Googling "Endo in Seattle". Checked out reviews, checked him out, and he turned out to be one of the most highly rated Endos in the city (my sister-in-law's Endo sent her to my guy for a biopsy and second opinion).

I figure if it can work for my thyroid, it can work for my wrinkles! :-)

I love the idea of checking with your hairdresser, too -- didn't think of that. And then, I'd Google their names and start my own research.

Lulu's experience with the first guy was almost scary. A DOCTOR doing a hard sell? I've looked up some of those who are offering deals on Groupon and other similar sites, and usually find less than stellar reviews.

You could also call around to some dermatologist offices and inquire who is known locally as being one who specializes in these procedures. Often the staff at some derm offices will be familiar with who to recommend, especially if their derm doesn't do them. They are bound to get calls periodically and often find it easier to have some referral names on hand. I have found physicians with certain specialties before this way.

Also hair salons and spas will often know the names of some of the local doctors who do these procedures. They often hear about them from their own clientele. I actually got a name when I first moved here from the gal who cut my hair at the time.

I've been to two doctors for Botox and fillers and found both by asking my hair stylist who he's seen in his chair lately who looks good, and to whom is she going. I also had excellent recommendations from friends who'd had "work" done.

Asking around takes time, but it worked for me!

I've gone to both a derm and a PS for Botox. They were both very, very good (ironically, the PS was cheaper, but I think that's because he has a spa and gets a lot more traffic). The botox cosmetic dot com site has an app that will direct you to a doctor in your zip code. I'm pretty sure they only list doctors who have trained with them--you really want to get someone with training and experience to minimize the possibility of side effects.

I personally only trust my Derm or her PA to administer. Plus I found them to be cheaper than these "day spas" that do them. For my forehead (which is all I get done), its $150 at my derm's office. For the same treatment at a spa is $325.

Word of caution, I don't recommend some place the charges, per area. I went to a Derm that charged per area and had to go three times for my 11's. They were trying to stretch the botox. The second time they charge me an extra $50 and the third time nothing. I still could frown. This Dr was listed on the Botox site, so much for that. I go Thursday to a PS, he does it himself and they have monthly "events".

I took a stab in the dark based on groupon and living social coupons. The only thing I knew is that I wanted it to be a plastic surgeon's office or med spa in a plastic surgeon's office. I did not want a regular med-spa and I did not want a derm's office. I also wanted the plastic surgeon to specialize in beauty type surgeries, ie, face lifts, eye lifts, breast enhancements. They have an eye for art and beauty rather than repair and reconstruction. That's not fair, as I'm sure PS who do repair also have an eye for beauty. I hope you all know what I meant.

The one I went to for Botox was a bomb. Never ever go back to him. Ugh. He had me sit in his office while he bragged about how wonderful he was and tried selling me on plastic surgery, etc. It was very uncomfortable. He kept putting me in front of a mirror and touching me. Not inappropriately, I would have kicked him hard, but just my face while moving it and had his hand on my shoulder. Ewwww. Before meeting him, I met with the nurse who took my history and she was hard sell, too, on other procedures. If I had not already paid for the Groupon, I would have got up and politely left.

The second one was for my Radiesse fillers and what a winner! She was an RN in a plastic surgeon's office and had been doing this for 12 years.

Those are my only two experiences. I would not rely on their before and after portfolios as they only choose the best and most remarkable to include in their portfolios.

Ask around at your hair salon or nail salon if you go to one of those. Certainly one of their customers has bragged about a doctor or med spa.

For me it's to make sure the Dr is a plastic surgeon, derm or cosmetic derm. It shouldn't be some general practice dr or dentist trying to get in on the hype. I also don't want a nurse doing the injections, nothing personal against nurses.
